should remember that Mrs. Liddell, near
the depot, has always on hand the best of
material, and that, all work, is done in a su

Meat Market. M. G. & E. W. Brown
have opened their new meat market, in the
room recently occupied by Alex. Irwin, on
Market Street. Their shop will be open for
the ale of all kinds of fresh meats on Tues
day, Thursday and Friday mornings. They
will also keep fruits vegetables and fish in

For Sale. M. Hubert, of Lutherybur?,
has for sale a good farm, in Union town
ship, and two good town lot, with good
frame dwelling house and blaoksinith shop
erected thereon, in Luthersburg. If any of

The Academy. Kev. P. L. Harrison,
the Principal of this institution, returned
last week, and will reopen hts school on
Monday next. For the advantages of :i thor
ough education, the Academy cannot be sur
passed by any other institution of its kind
in Western Pennsylvauia. If you have
children to educate do not fail to tend them
to the Academy.
A County Institute, we learn, will -be
held, in ClearQeld, commencing on October
17th. The home and foreign aid employed
by tha executive committee, will certainly
make it one of the most profitable institutes,
to teachers, yet held. Every teacher should
so arrange his home affairs as to be present.
Tiiey, like other people, are judged from
the interest they take in their profession.
School for Girls. We would call at
tention to Miss Swan's "School fWr Girls,"
located in this borough, the fall term of
which commences Sept. 5th. This school
supplies a want long fc'.t in this community
affording an opponuniiy fur our citizens to
educate their daughters at home. Miss
Swan s name is a f-ufiicient guarantee to
all who n.ay iniruct their children to her
care.
Concert. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Hays,
and Mr. and Mrs. 11. S. Guiimette, of Phil
adelphia, gave a concert in this place, on
Saturday evening lust, which is very higMy
praised by thjo present on that occasion.
At the solicitation of a large number of our
citizens, they have3 concerted to give
a Dumber of concerts, in lbs Court Ilou-e,
daring the coming Fair. AH lovers of good
Citisie should embrace the opportunity to
listen to this rich feast of muic.
A ritvnic for the bsnic of St. B inden
ture's Chnrch, will take place at Grampian
Iliils. on Wednesday, September 7th, in ar
beautiful Grove on too Church Farm. The

DIED :
On Saturday, August 20th, 1870, in Falls
City. Nebraska, Elva Si'E Enid, infant
daughter id Hon. E. S. and Mary Dundy,
aged 1 year, 0 months an 1 21 days.
At Grahampton, Friday. August 5th,
1S70, Mrs. Makoaret Forcke, widow of
the late Matthew A. Forcee, of Bradford
Township, aged o'J years, 10 months and lo
days.
The deceased came to this county with
her parents, John and Mary Murray, when
very young and wii h them endured many
of ti-c privations and hardships incident to
the early settlers. For about forty years
she wa a member of the Methodist Episco
pal Church, and though in her later years
she bore a large share of the afflictions ami
sorrows of life yet she constantly maintained
her christian character, and during a Ions
and serious illness continued to express an
unwavering tru--t in her Redeemer. M. g

the (i7lh year of bis age.
The deceased was born in Berks county,
Pa., in the year lsu,'5. At an early age fie
removed to Northumberland county, where
he resided for a numlier of years. In 1S27
ho emigrated to Clearfield county, and set
tled at the mouth of Deer Cr.ck, in Giratd
township, where he was subjected to many
of tho trials and inconveniences experienced
by t lie early ..; Irrs of the county. In the
year 18"1 he was appointed one of the As-MOei-ite
Judges of this county, by Governor
W. F.Johnston, which position he filled in
a very creditable manner. His lioeraiity
a nl benevolence was excelled by none. Was
any one sick, or in di-tres, or unfortunate
from accident in tins neighborhood, they al
ways found him a svmpathising friend, or
found an asylum in his household, where
everything needful was lavishly and freely
bestowed. In 167 he removed from Deer
Creek to Beverly, New Jersey, where he
contracted the disease that terminated his
life. Patient in all his sufferings, and per
fectly resigned to the dispensations of ProT
idenee ; rememberine that "as thy steps
advance, the valley of the shadow of death
opens, through which all must pass." He
feaves a wife and child, and a large circle of
frien Is to mourn his death. m.
