One Of the most torrifie and destructive torna does, that has visited this county for many yeans, passed along the head waters and down Lick Hun, on WeJiiesdiiy last,. July 27th. Between tro and three o'clock in the afternoon, u tideiily there arose heavy clouds in the north west, and ioon the tornado burst forth irf all its poster and fury. Large bo Jies of very valuable pine timber were instantly hurled ta the eaith. Trees of all sizes were uprooted, and in innumer able instances they, were twisted and tore into fragments, a if they were mere reeds or toys. The ro'd was also torn off Mrs. Mary Shaw's barn. No other buildings were damaged so far as we have information. At or near the mouth of Li-k liun, the tor nado crossed the river into Bradford town ship, but, having had expended its greatest fury,' it was contented with uprooting some app'j trees, etc. The extent of country djvastated is, on an average, about two miles in breadth, ami some ten or twelve miles in length the principal dettuc:io!i being among the pine timber, and within the first seven miles of its course. The loss sustained has not been estimated, but will reach many thousands oi dollars. One incident connected with the storm, is worthy of particular mention. A Mr. Hancock, had borrowed a wagon to come to Cle.:rfield, and had just droTe up to his premises when the storm bunt upon him. He hurriedly unhitched the horses and put them in thu stable, when the trees began to fall all around, and singular to state not one fell on either his stable or house, but three fell on the wagon and smashed it to atoms.
