Falls Cm, Neb., May 17, 1S70 Dear Journal : Having nothing pres sing on hands this afternoon, I thought I would seek a respite from ennui, by writing you a letter detailing to my Pennsylvania friends the prospects of our young State for the incoming agricultural and political year. But first let we tell you that Tails City and vicinity 13 almost entirely becoming settled up with Pennsylvanians. So it is no longer a western home to those of us that have been here for some time. The familiar faces we see around, makes us feel that we are still in the old Keystone State. The absence of rock and timber, and stumpy fields is all that convinces 5us that we are not in a Rip Van V'inkle sleep. E. VL L. S touch ton and family, from Clearfield, and Dr. V. YV. Shaw, from Elk county, arrived here a few weeks since, and are making gen eral preparations to commence the battle of life a-new, in this Western country. They are both very well pleased with our city.and have bright anticipations of success in their new home. About two miles from Falls is quite a large settlement from Somerset Co., Pesn'a. They are of the Dankard religious persuasion, and" a good, solid, substantial. intelligent and public spirited citizens, they cannot be excelled. Thev have a minister with them, and propose building a church this summer. Our county of Richardson will increase at least fifty per cent this year, immigration has already commenced and movers in their wagonj are passing through our streets daily. At least fifty new house are in course of erection, or 'contracted for to be built in Falls City this season. A R J! Road is already under way from Lawrence, Kansas, to Nebraska City, Nebraska, which in another year will give us direct cotuuiu- nioatiou with Galveston, Tux as. Said road ra.-cs through Fill City. The extension of the B. & P. V. R. R.'is Icing rushed rapidly forward frvm this place to Lincoln, tne Lat.itci et -Nebraska, l t-elieve 1 in formed you in a previous letter that the iron was a:rea-Jy laid to tins piace. larger pre parations are being made fjr breaking prai rie, and for farming generally, then in any two previous years. Our i-tnte election comes off thi fall ; we hive a Governor and all State officers, as well ss a complete set . , 1 .
