SPECIAL NOTICE.
SehencJcs Pulmonic Syinip,
eeweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills.will cure Con
sumption. Liver Con.plaint and Dyspepsia, if ta-
Ken according to directions, iney are an mree
to be taken at the same time. Tbjy eleanse the
stomach, relax the liver, and put it to work ; then
tbe appetite becomes good, the food aigests and
-ikes good blood, tbe patient begins to grow in
flesh, the diseased n.atter ripens in tbe 1 ngs.and
the patient ontgrows tbe disease and gets well.
This is tha only way to cure the consumption.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H. Schenck, of
Philadelphia, owes his unrivalled success in the
treatment of pulmonary consumption. The Pul
monic Syrup ripens the morbid matter in tbe
lungs, nature throws it off by an easy expectora
tion, for when the phlegm or matier is ripe, a
slight cough will throw itoff, and the patient has
rest and the lungs begin to heal. To do this, the
Seaweed Touic aud'Mandrake Pills must be freely
used to cleanse the stomach and liver, so that the
Pulmonic Syrup and tbe food will make good
blood.
Liver Complaint is one of the most prominent
causes of Consumption. Sschenck s Seaweed Ton
ic is a gentle stimulant and alterative, and the
alkali in the Seaweed, which this preparation is
mada of. assists the stomach to throw out the gas
trie juice to dissolve the food with the Pulmonis
Syrup, and it ismadeinto good blood withoutfer
mentatton or souring in the stomach. The great
reason why physicians do not cuie consumption is
they try to do too much ; they five inediuine o
stop the cough, to stop chills, to stop night sweats,
hectic fever, and by so doing they derange the
whole digestive powers.locking up the secretions
and eventually the patient sinks and dies.
Dr. Schenck, in his treatment, does not try to
tnn .....i-h ,iii?ht sweats chills or fever., Re-
mov e the cauie.and they will all stop of theif own
accord No one can be cured or consumption, uv
r romnl.int dvsneDsia. catarrh, cank er. ulcer
ated throat . unless the liver and stomach are made
healthy.
If a person has oonsumption.of course the lungs
in some way are diseased, either tubercles, a b
scesses, bronchial irritation; pleura adhesion, or
tho lnn? are a mass of inflamation ant fast de
pnvin fo such oases what must be done? It
i lint ii nlv the lun?s that are wasted, but it is the
whole body. Tbe stomach and liver have Inst
thoir nower to make blood out of food. io the
onlvchanre is to lake Sehenck's three medicines,
which will bring up a tone to tho stomach, the
nationt will heirin want food, it will diifst easily
and make good blood ; then the patient begins to
gain in flesh, and as soon as the body begins to
grow, the lungs be? n t heal up. and the patient
gets fleshy and well, -his is the only way to
cure consumption.
When there is no lnng disease, and only liver
-nmr.Iaint and dvsnepsii. Scbenck'i Seaweed
Tonic and Mandrake Pills are sufficient without
thn Pulmonic. SvrUD. Take tbe Mai;drare Pills
freely in all bilious complaints, as they are per-
tectlj uarin'ess.
Dr. Schenck, who has enjoyed uninterrupted
healih for many years past, and now weighs 22i
i.min-i. was wasted away to a mere .-Veleton. in
the very last stage of pulmonary consumptinn. his
physicians having pronounced his ense hopeless

many similarly afflicted have used Dr. Scheuck'a
preparations with the same remarkable sucee;.
The directions accompanying each, make it not
absolutely nece.-siryto see Dr. Schenck, unlets
tbovpatients wish their lungs examined, and for
Ibis purpose he is Professionally at his Principal
iiflice, Philadelphia, every Saturday, whore all
letters for advice must be addressed. He is also

QFFICE OF FISK k HATCH,
BANKERS AND DEALERS IN GOVERNMENT
SECURITIES,
No. 5 Nassau Street, New Yobk,
FeBRraRT 15th, 1S70.
The remarKable success which attended our ne
gotiation of the Loans of the Central Pacific Rail
road Company and the Western Pacific V.ailroad
Company, and the popu lar ity and credit which
Loans have maintained in the markets, both in
thie country and Europe, have shown that the
First Mortgage Bonds of wisely located and hon
orably managed Railroads are promptly recogni
sed and readily taken as tbe most suitable, safe,
and advantageous form of Investment, yielding a
more liberal income than can hereafter be de
rived from Government Bonds, and ataila'ble to
take their place.
Assured that, in the selection and negotiation
or superior Kailroad Loans, we are meeting s
great public want, and rendering a valuable ser
vice both to tbe holders of Capital and to those
great National works of internal improvement
whose intrinsic merit and substantial character
entitle them to the use ot Capital aad the' eonS
dence of investors we now offer with special
coufidence and satisfaction the
FIltST MORTGAGE BONDS
Chesapeake ami Ohio Railroad Company,
The Chesapeake and Obio'Railroad, connecting
the Atlantic coast and the magnificent harbors of
the Chesapeake Bay with the Ohio River at a
point of reliable navigation, and thus, with the
entire Railroad system and water transportation
of the great West and Southwest, forms the addi
tional East and West Trunk Line, so imperatively
demanded for the accommodation of the immense
and rapidly growing ti asportation between the
Atlautie seaboard and Europe on the one band
nd the preat producing regions of the Obio and
Mississippi Valleys on the other.
The importance of this Road as a new outlet
from the West to the sea magnifies it into one of
national consequence, and insures to it an exten
sive through traffic from the day of its comple
tion; while, in the development of the extensive
agricultural and mineral resources of Virginia
and ' est Virginia, it possesses, along its own line,
the elements of a large and pro&tablo local bu
siness. Thus the great iutcrests.botb general and local
which demand the completion of tbe Chesapeake
and Ohio Railroad to the Ohio River, vfford the
surest guarantee of Its success and value, and
render it the most important and substantial rail
road enterprise now In prngress In this country.
Its superiority as an East and West route, and
the promise of an immense and profitable trade
awaiting its complxtion, have drawn to it the at
tention and co operation of prominent Capitalists
and Qailroad men of this City, of sound judg
ment and known integrity, whosexonceetion with
it. to gether with that of eminent citizens and bu
sinessmen of Virginia and West Virginia, in
urefl eoergctio, honorable. and successful man
agement. The Roal is completed nd in operation from
Richmond to the celebrated White Sulphur
Springs ot West Virginia, 227 miles und there re
main but 200 miles, (now partially constructed) to
bo completed, to carry it to thoproposed terminus
on the Ohio river at, or near, the nrnuth of the
Big Sandy River, 150 miles tbote Cincinnati and
350 miles below Pittsburg.
- Lines are now procect--d or in progress t& rough
Obio and Kentucky to this point, which will con.
nect the Chesapeake and Ohio with tbe entire
railroad systems cf the West and Southwest, and
with tbe Pacific Kailroad.
Its valuable franchises and superior advanta
ges will place the Chesapeake and Ohio Railro d
Company among the richest and most powerful
and trustworthy corporations ol tbe country ; and
there ex-'ist's a present value;, in completed road
and Work done, equal to tbe entire amount of tba
mortgage.
Tho details of tbe Loan have been arranged
with special reference to tbe wants of all classes
of investors and combine the various ienturcs of
convenience, safety, and protection ' against loss
oi fraud.
The Bonds arc in denominations of
$1000, $500 axi) $100.
They will be issued as Coupon Bonds, payable
to Hearer, and may be held in that form ; or tbe
Bond may be registered in the name of the own
er, with ihe coupons remaining payable to bearer
attached, tho principal being then transferable
only on tho books of the Company, unless re as
signed to bearer : or the coupons may be detach
ed end cancelled, tbe Bond made a permanent
Registered Bond, transferable only on the Books
of the Company, and the interest jnade payable
only to tbo registered owner or his attorney.
The three classes will be known respectively as :
1. 'Coupon Bonds psyvblj to Bearer."
2. "Registered Bonds tiilh Coupons attached."
3. "Registered Bonds with Coupons detached,"
and shold be so designated by correspondents in
specifying the class of Bonds desired.
They have Thirty years to run from January 15,
1870, with interest at six percent, per annnm from
November 1, I860. Principal and interest paya
ble in gold in the, city of New York.
The interest is payable in May and Novomber,
that it may take the place of that of the earlier
issues ot Five-Twenties, and snit the convenience
of our friends who alroady bold Central and
Western Pacific Bonds, with interest payable ii.
January and July and who may desire. in making
additional investments, to have their interest le-
ceivable at different seasons of the year.
Tbe Loan is secured by a mortgage upon the
entire Line of Road from Richmond to the Ohio
Kivcr, with tbe equipment and all other property
and appurtenances connected therewith
A Sinking Fund of 5100,000 rer annum is pro
vided for the redemption of the Bonds, to take
effect one year after the completion of the road.
The mortgage is for SI5,000,0f,O. of which S2,
0?0,000 will be reserved and held in trust for tbe
redemption of outstanding Bonds of tbe Virginia
Central Railroad Company, now merged in the
Chesapeake and Ohio.
Of the remaining 513 000,000,n sufficient amount
will be sold to complete tbe road to tho Ohio riv
er, perfect and improve the portion now in eper
arion, and thoroughly equip the whole for a large
and active traffic.
The present prico is 90 and accrued interest.
A Loan so amply secured, so carefully guarded,
and bo certain hereafter to command a prominent
place among the favorite securities in the mar
kets, both of tbis country and Europe, will be at
once appreciated and quickly absorbed.
Very respectfully,
FISli 4 HATCH, Banker j.
