. The Negro in Congress. The neero,
so long the disturbing force in politics, has
now entered Congress, and last week he
walked about the Senate chamber, where
he is soon to have a seat. This colored man,
Revet, comes from Mississippi, the. State
once represented by Jefferson Davis, and it
is not the least of the revenges brought
about by time and the war, that he is likely
to take the scat ' formerly occupied by the
cx-Ieader of the hosts of secession. It is a
wonderful change. The war waged for sla
very has given the slaves freedom, the bal
lot and ci.izenship. . It has sent splendid
paTij leaders into hopeless oblivion, and
brought the representatives of a condemned
race into be very front. They coihe, too,
forgiving . aif magnanimous, and ask of
Congress amnee'j and forbearance for those
who have so long o7osed them, and who
would have bound them in everlasting
chains. The appearartu." Mr. Revel in
the Senate bodes a new e "I." He will be
closely scanned, but those who ki1'"w 1dm do
not doubt that he will paas through e or

The M n-imii L iiilaturj h is passed the

SeJienclcs Pulmonic Syrtqi,
Heeweed Tonie and Mandrake Pills, will oare Con
sumption, Liver Complaint ami llyfpepsia, if ta
Ken according to diiectiona. They are all three
to be tnken at the same time. Thjy cleanse the
stomach, relax the liver, and pu it to work ; then
the appetite becomes good, the fond digests and
ik good blond, the patient begins to grow ia
fleeh the diseased matter ripens in the 1 ngs.and
the patient outgrows the disease and gets well.
This is the only way to cure the consumption.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H. Scltenck. of
Philadelphia, owes his nnrivalled success in the
treatment of pulmonary consumption. Tbe Pul
monic Syrup ripens the morbid matter in the
lungs, nnture throws it off by an easy expectora
tion, fur when the phlegm or matter is ripe, a
slight cough will throw itoff, and the pationt has
rest and the lungs begin to heal. To do this, the
Seaweed Tonic and Mandrako Pills must be freely
u..eJ to clexnse the stomach and liver, so that the
Pulmonto Syrup a-id the food will uiako good
blood:
Liver Complaint is one of the most prominent
causes if Consumption. Schenck Seaweed Ton
ie is a gen'le stimulant and alterative, ard the
alkali in the Seaweed, which this preparation ia
mails of, assists tbu stomach to throw out the gas
trie juice to dissolve the food with the Pulmonic
Syrup, and it isinadointo good blood withnutfer
meuutlnn or souring in the stomach. Tho great
reason why physicians do not cuie consumption IS
they try to do too inaoh ; they give medicine to
stop the cough, to stop chills, lo stop night sweats,
hectic fever, and by so doing they derange the
whole digestive powers.Iocking up the secretions
and eventually tbe putent sinks and dies.
Dr. Schenck. lu his treatmont. docs not try to
stop a cough, night sweats chilla or fever. Ue

When there is no lung disease, and only liver
complaint and dyspepsia, Hohcnck's Seaweed
Tonic and Mandrake Pills are sufficient vrithnnt
the Pulmonic Syrup. Take the Mandrale Pills
freely iti all bilious complaints, as they arc per
fect!) harmless.
Dr. Pehcnck. who has enjoyed uninterrupted
health for many years past, and now weighs 225
pounds, was wasted away to a mere skeleton, in
the very last stage 6f pulmonary consumption. hU
physicians having pronounced his ci.se hopeless
and anandoneil him to his fate. He ws cured
bv the aforefaid medicines.and since his recovery
ui.'iny similarly athio-ed have used Dr. Scbenck's'
preparations with the same remarkable ucces.
The directions ncconipanying each, inakn it not
absijlufely necessary to see Dr. Sehenck. unlets
the patients wish their Inngs examined, and for
this purpose he is Professionally at bis Principal
