Prepare for the Census Taker.
Next year will occur the grand decennial
census of the United States made by the
general government. Persons will be ap
pointed for every locality in the States and
townships to gather statistics of the inhabi
tants, and all the agricultural productions
manufactures, etc. Each cultivator will
be asked for a concise, accurate statement
of land occupied by him, the number of a
eres.and the amount of each crop raised, du
ring the year, ending June 30, naxt. Those
who were called on before will doubtless re
member the difficulty in making np an accu
rate of the crops. As these reports will be
called for in June, it will be necessary to
give in the crops gathered this fall, and the
suggestion that we would make is, that cul
tivators write down, while fresh in mind, the
number of acres under cultivation, the num
ber of acres of each kind, the amount jer
acre, and the gross amount. The milk pro
duct also, and the pork, beef, etc., will be
asked for, as well as all kinds of fruits, etc.
The Melbourn Argut reports the cure of
a dangerous injury ty the use of dry earth
alone. A Mr. Prat was kicked in the leg
by a horse, and the wound only partly heal
ed so that it soon broke out again, and
spread until the whole lower part of the leg
was affected. Some earth was applied to
the wound, and the result was that the
swelling was immediately reduced, and at
the end of three weeks the wound was quite
healed.
To Remove Grease-Spots. A lady cor
respondent says that she has an improve
ment on Mrs. Kate Hunnibee's plan to re
move grease from silks, etc. It is to place
a piece of thick, soft blotting-paper used by
accountants, on the table, then lay the soil
ed part of the dress on it. Tut another
piece of the blotting-paper on that, and
press with a hct iron on the paper.
Mr. J. Shepherd says : "Mix a small
quatitity of plaster and alum with water, and
use in a liquid state. It sets very hard and
is especially good for fixing the brass caps
to lamps.
