Mil Kmtor: Having occasion to visit
the upper end of our county, I had the
pleasure of spending Saturday, July 3d, at
a Sabbath School celebration at Susquehan
na church. My visit was of an unu.-ualiy
pleasing character, and I found the people
with a taste eiual, if not. superior, to the
people of longer settled countries. Daniel
K. M'Gee, Ksq., president, deserves no lit
tle credit for the able manner in which he
adjusted the many requirements of the oc
casion. Master James Davison read .the
Declaration "tif Independence, an I did it
justice. Prof. J. S. Smith delivered an o
ration that would have done credit to one of
many inoreyears. I was surprised to find one
so young Mich a polished orator. An original
essay by Miss Lizzie MehaSey, was beautiful
beyond expression, and is certainly the in
dex to 'more mature efforts. Miss Sadie
Weaver read ''Bancroft's Battle of Lexing
ton" with considerable ability. Miss Fan
nie M'Gee recited Knox's only poem, ''Why
should t he spirit of mortal be proud,' and
the piece was shorn of none of its beauty
in the admirable delivery. The regular and
volunteer toasts were very good. After
music by the Chest Baud, dinner vas an
nounced, and the tables, spread with the
delicacies of the season, presented a feast
sufficiently sumptu-vus for the most fastidi
ous epicure. In conclusion I will only add
that the ladies of that vicinity, for taste,
elegance, kc, will compare favorably with
those of the more dcuscly populated portions
of our county. Visitor.

A Great Remedy for the eurs
of Throat and Lung Disrate. Doctor
Yishort' Fine Tree Tar Cordial.
It is the vital prineiple of the Pine Tree, ob
tained by a peon liar proceaa in the distillation of
the tar. by which its highest medical properties
are retained.
It is the only safeguard and reliable remedy
which has ever been prepared from the juice of
the Pine Tree
It invigorates the digestive organs and restores
the appetite.
It strengthens the debilitated system.
It purifies and enriches the blood, and excels
from the system the corruption which scrofula
breeds on the lungs. . .
It diso Ives the mucus or phlegm which stops
the air-passages of the lungs.
Its healing principle acts upon the irritated
surface of the lungs and throat, penetrating to
each diseased part, relieving pain and subduing
inflammation
It is the result of years of study and experiment,
and it is offered to the aluioted, with the positive
assurance of its power to cure the following dis
eases, if the patient has not too long delayed a re
sort to the means of cure :
Consumption of the Langs, Cough, Sore Throat
and iVeast Bronchitis. Liver Complaint, Blind
and Pleediag Piles, Asthma, Whvoping Cough,
1'irtheria. Ac. Ac
We are often asked why are not other remedies
in the market for Consumption, Coughs, Colds,
and other Pulmonary affections equal to Dr. L.
y. Wishart's Pine 1 ree Cordial. We answer
1st It cures, not by stopping cough, but by
loosening and assisting nature to throw off the
anhealthy matter collected about the throat and
bronchial tubes, causing irritation and cough.
2d. Most Throat and Lung Remedies are com
posed of anodynes, which allay the, cough for
awhile, but by their con?tringing cffeots.the fibres
become hardened, and the unhealthy fluids coag
ulate and are retained in the system, causing dis
ease beyond the control of our moat eminent phy
sicians. 3d The Tine Tree Cordial, with its assistants,
are preferable, because they remove the cause of
irritation of the mucus membrane and bronchial
tubes, assist the lungs to set and throw off tbe un
healthy secretions, and purify the blood, thus
scientifically making the cure perfcot.
Dr. Wishart has on file at hif office hundreds
and thousands of Certificates from Men and Wo
men of unquestionable character who were once
hopelessly given up to die, but through the Prov
idence of God were completely restored to health

.SPECIAL NOTICE.
ScJtenck's Pulmonic Sru,
Seeweed Tonic and Mandrake I'ills.will cure Con
sumption, Liver Complaint and Dyspepsia, if ta
Ken according to directions. They are all three
to be taken at the same time. Tney eleanse the
stomach, relax tbe liver, and put it to work ; then
tbe appttite becomes good, the food digests and
makes good blood, the patient begins to grow in
fle.-h. the diseased matter ripens in the I ngs.and
the patient outgrows the disease and gets well.
This is the only way to cure the consumption.
To these three medicines Dr. J. H. Schenck. of
Philadelphia, owes his unrivalled success in the
treatment of pulmonary consumption. The Pul
monic Syrup ripens the morbid matter in the
lungs, nature throws it off by an easy expectora
tion, for when the phlegm or matter is ripe, a
slight cough will throw it off, and the patient has
rest and the lungs begin to heal. To do this, the
Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills must be freely
used to clcnnse tbe stomach and liver, so that the
Pulmonic Syrup aid the food will make good
blood.
Liver Complaint is one of the most prominent
onuses of Consumption. Schem-k's Seaweed Ton
ic is a gentle stimulant and alterative, and the
alkali in the Seaweed, which this preparation is
mada of, assists the stomach to throw out the gas
trie juice to dissolve the food with the Pulmonio
Syrup. and it is madeinto good blood without fer
mentation or souring in the stomach. The great
"reason why physicians do not cuie consumption is
they try to do too much ; rbey give medicine to
stop the cough, to stop chills, to stop night sweats,
beotio fever, and by so doing they derange tbe
whole digestive powers. locking up the secretions
and eventually tbe pat'ent sinks and dies.
Dr, Sobcnck. in his treatment, does not try to
stop a cough, night sweats chills or fever. Re
move the cause and Ihey will all stop of their own
accord No ono can be cured of consumption. liv
er complaint, dyspepsia, catarrh, canker, ulcer
ated throat.unlcu the liver and stomach are made
healthy.
If a person has consumption. of oourse the lungs
in some way are diseased, either tubercles, ab
scesses, bronchial irritation, pleura adhesion, or
the lungs are a mass of infiamation and fust de
caying. In snoh eases what mast be done? It
is not only the lungs th.it are wasted, but it is the
whole body. Tbe stomach and liver have lost
their power to make blood out of food. Now the
only chnnoe is to takeSchenck's three medicines,
which will bring up a tone to the stomach, the
patient will begin want food, it will digrst easily
and make good blood; then the patient begins to
gain in fiesb. and as soon ns the body begins to
grow, the lungs beg n to heal up. and the patient
gets' tlehy and well. This is tbe only way to
cure consumption.
When there ia no lung disease, and only liver
complaint and dyspepsia, Schonck'a Seaweed
Tonic and Mandrake Pills are sufficient without
the Pulmonic Svrup. Tako the Mar.draVe Pills
fro!y iu all bilious complaints, as they are per
fectly harmless.
Dr. Scbenclw. who has" enjoyed uninterrupted
health'for many years past, and now weighs 225
pouuds. was wasted away to a mero skeleton, in
the very last stage of ouluionary consumption, his
physicians bavilig pronounced his case hopeless
anu abandoned turn to his tate. lie was eurea

tbe patients wish their lungs examined, and for
this purpose he is Professionally at his Principal
