Sunday evening, about church time. We
thought this badly-done-up-bundle of-old-clothcs

some time ago, along with others of the
nasty absurdities. It may be, though, that
the proprietor of the one we refer to, adopt

A Good Hit. A cotemporary makes the
following pithy hit at a class indigenous to
every community: "The man or boy who
goes through the streets whooping and lunc
haa tity is certainly a fit representative of
noii xeime. And when that man or boy goes
to any place of public interest, he is sure
to be not only a nonsense but a public -sauce.
When he goes to church, ho crowds
h'snself into the hiud.tuo.st seat, and keeps
eating pea nuts or chewing tobacco, and
commits sundry other acts of indecorum.
If he goes to a concert, he whistles, claps,
.stamps, hoots, bellows, bawls, laughs and
screams, worse than any other idiot would,
with only half the pretension to common
xenae. When yon see such a man, spot him.
lie is either a pick-pocket or a tool ; a sot
or a vagabond ; a villain or a maniac When
you see such a boy, put him down as a can
didate for promotion, or rather degradation
avocation, which is sordid enough to
meet the wants of his depraved taste."

A Great Remedy for the cure
of Throat and Lung Diseases. Doctor
Wisliart's l'ine Tree Tar Cordial
It is the vital principle of the Pine Tree, ob
tained by a peculiar process in the distiliatien of
the tar, by which its highest medical properties
are retained.
It is the only safeguard and reliable remedy
which has ever been prepared from the juice of
the Pine Tree
It inrigorates the digestive organs and restores
the appetite.
It strengthens the debilitated system.
It purifies and enriches the blood, and expels
from the system the corruption which scrofala
breeds on the lungs.
It disolvea the mucus or phlegm which stops
the air-passages of the lungs.
Its bealinj prinoiple acts npon the irritated
surface of the lungs and throat, penetrating to
exch diseased part, relieving pain and subduing
inflammation
It is the result ofjyears of study and experiment,
and it is offered to the afflicted, with the positive
assurance of its power to core the following dis
eases, if the patient has not too long delayed a re
sort to the means of cure :
Consumption of the Lungs, Congb. Sore Throat
and lreast, Bronchitis, Liver Complaint, Blind
and Hleeding Piles, Asthma, Whvoping Cough.
Iiptheria. Ac. ie
We are often asked why are not other remedies
in the market for Consumption, Coughs, Colds,
and other Pulmonary affections equal to Dr. L.
Q. Wisliart's Pine 1 ree Cordial. We answer
1st It cures, not by stopping cough, but by
loosening and assisting nature to throw off the
unhealthy matter collected about the throat and
bronchial tubes, causing irritation and cough.
2d. Most Throat and Lung Remedies are com
posed of anodynes, which allay the; cough for
awhile. but by tbeir eonstrinaing effects. the fibres
become hardened, and the nhealthy fluids coag
ulate and are retained In the system, causing dis
ease beyond the control of our most eminent phy
sic inns.
3d The Pine Tree Cordial, with its assistants,
are preferable, because tbey remove tbe cause of
irritation of the mucus membrane and bronchial
tubes, assist the lungs to act and throw off the un
healthy secretions, and purify the blood, thus
scientifically making the cure perfect.
Dr. WUhart has on file at hir office hundreds
and thousands of Certificates from Men and Wo
men of unquestionable character who were once
hopelessly given up to die, but .hrough tbe Prov
idence of Uod were completely restored to health

SPECIAL NOTICE.
Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup,
Seeweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills.will cure Con
sumption, Liver Complaint and Dyspepsia, if ta
ken according to directions. They are all three
to be taken at the same time. Th.-y cleanse the
stomaoh. relax the liver, and put it to work ; thca
the appttite becomes good, the food digest and
makes good blood, the patient begins to grow in
fiesh tbe diseased matter ripeus in the 1 ngs.and
the patient outgrows the disease and gets well.
This is the only way to enre the consumption.
To these three medicines Dr. J. II. Schenck, of
Philadelphia, owes his unrivalled success in the
treatment of pulmonary consumption The Pul
monic Syrup ripens the morbid matter in the
lungs, nature throws it off by an easy expectora
tion, for trben the phlegm or matter is ripe, a
slight cough will throw it off, and the patient has
rest and the lungs begin to heal. To do this, the
Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills must be freely
u?ed to cleanse the stomach and liver, so that tbe
Puluionio Syrup and the food will make good
blood.
Liver Complaint is one of tbe most prominent
causes of Consumption. Schenck's Seaweed Ton
ic is a gentle stimulant and alterative, and the
alkali in the Seaweed, which this preparation is
mada of, assists the stomach to throw out the gas
trie juice to dissolve tbe food with the Pulmonic
Syrup, and it is made into good blood without fer
mentation or souring in the stomach. The great
reason why physicians do not cure consumptions
tbey try to do too much ; tbey give medicine to
stop the eough, to stop chills, to stop bight sweats,
hectic fever, and by so doing they derange the
whole digestive powers. locking up tbe secretions
and eventually tbe patient sinks and dies.
Dr. Schenck, in his treatment, does not try to
stcpacouh, night sweats chills or fever. Re
move the cause, and they will all stop of their own
accord No one can be cured of consumption. liv
er complaint, dyspepsia, catarrh, canker, ulcer
ated ibroat, unless the liver and stomaoh are made
healthy.
If a person ha3 consumption of course tbe lungs
in some way are diseased, either tubercles, ab
scesses, bronchial irritation, pleura adhesion, or
tbe lungs are a mass of inflamalion and fast de
caying. In such cases what must be done? It
is not only the lungs that are wasted. but it is the
wbole body. Tbe stomach and liver bave lost
tbeir power to make blood out of food. Now the
onlycbunce is to take Schenck's three medicines,
wbiub will bring up a tone to tbe stomach, the
patient will begin want food, it will digest easily
and make good blood; then the patient begins to
gain in flesh, and as soon as the body begins to
grow, the Jungs beg-n to heal up. and tbe patient
gets fleshy and well, -his is the only way to
cure consumption.
When there is no lung disease, and only liver
complaint and dyspepsia, Schenck's Seaweed
Tonic and Mandrake Pilis are sufficient without
the Pulmonic Syrup. Take the Mandralre Pills
freely in all bilious complaints, as they are per
fectly barmtess.
Dr. Schenck, who has enjoyed uninterrupted
health'for many years past, and now weighs 225
pounds, was wasted away to a mere skeleton, in
the very last stage of pulmonary consumption, bis
physicians having pronounced his case hopeless
antl abandoned mm to nis lute, ne was cured
by tbe aforesaid medicines.and since bis recovery
many similarly atUioted have used Dr. Schenck's
preparations with tbe same remarkable success.
The directions accompanying each, make it not
absolutely necessary to see Dr. Sohenck, unlets
tbe patients wish tbeir lungs examined, and for
this purpose be is Professionally at bis t'rinctpal
Office, Philadelphia, every Saturday, where all
letters for advice must be addressed. He is also
prnfesfionallT at No. 32 Bond Street, New York,
