Kslaroed. The Altoona Tribune comes
to m this week enlarged to a thirty-two col
umn paper. The Tribune is one of our
neatest and best exchanges, and worthy a
liberal support of the citizens of Altoona

vh-ion store, in the house of Mrs. Sackett,
on Locust street, in this place. A full sup

lur County Superintendent of Common
Schools will take place on Monday, 3Iay 3d
next. We presume there will be an abund
ance of candidates, as we have already heard
trie mines or tnree or lour persona men
tioned ia connection with the position.
A Good Arrangement. The Penn'a
Railroad company, is now issuing through
tickets, at their office in this place, to all
points west, fouth-west and north-west.
This will be a great convenience to persons
going west, as heretofore, they could only
get' tickets to . Pittsburg, where they had
ajaiu to procure other tickets.
CofRT. On .Monday next Court will
commence in this place. The criminal cau
se will likely occupy the attention of the
Ceort all week, and hence the civil list has
Ivu continued by agreemcut of counseL As
m-.i;y of our patrons will be in town at that
time, we hope they will visit our sanctum
and a-vextnin the state of their accounts. It
i imputed that they should not neglect so
important a duty.
The Weather. For more than a week

held in the Court House, on Wednesday
evening March 17th to select Representative
and Senatorial Conferees, to meet in Dis

gates to the State Convention to meet on

Pennsylvania Railroad.
The twenty-second annual report of the
share-holders of the Pennsylvania Railroad
Company shows another year of prosperous
business upon this great line.
The total earnings were 17.932.407 71
Of thisamount $3,541,003 04 were received
Ironi passengers, and $77S,244 20 from em
igrant passengers. Mails, $09,931 21 ; gen
eral freights, $12,882,165 39, aud miscella
neons sources. $340,321 32.

leaving the net earnings for the year 1SG8
$5,372,513 43. The increase over the total
revenues ot 1807 is $803,240 05.
There was a decrease in the revenue from
emigrant travel, express matter and miscel
laneous sources, amounting to $209,720 58.
1 he increase from regular freights, first
class passengers and mail matter was $1,100.

$48,138, 25 per mile, of the main line of
me railroad.
The whole number of passengers carried
in 1867 was 3,347,466. and in 1808. 3.747.178

passenger was 6; 54-100 miles, beine 2 27-
100 miles less than in 1867. showint? this in
crease to be upon the local traffic of the line.
1 he number ot tons of freight moved (in
cluding 204, 131 tons of fuel and other mate

4,722,015, embracing 2.065.040 tons of

exceeds that of last year, 621,477 tons, ot
which increase 384 3i6 tons was bituminous
coal.

The net profits from both railways, for
1868. are $4.289.338 78. After deducting
dividends amounting to $3,343,281 90, an
nual payment to the btate on account of
purchase ot the puohc works, $460,000, in
tercst, etc., there is a balance on baud of
$750,471 77.

All of the branch and leased lines oncra
ted by this company, except the Philadel
phia and Krie. and the Kast Branrivwine

penses, equal in the acvrreirate to the inter
est upon the amounts standing upon the
dooks against them.
The earnings of ihc railways in which the
Pennsylvania Railroad Coninanv is the hold
