his firt ae.-.-ien of Court in this, place, last

he dispose J of business, tbe legal interests
of the county will not suffer at his bands.
Ho i-an affable, courteous gentle-man, seem
ingly jm.s-e--.-ed of good legal acquirements
and prompt in his decisions. His first court

Saoe Advice. Never pay a bill on first
presentation it would look as if you were
ostentatious of honestj'. At the second time
of presenting you may consider about it,aud
ray "call again." Third or fourth time you
niiy be cither not at home or out of money,
and.-hould tie creditor calf a fifth, you may
hive a fair reason to be offended at his per
ticseity, and not pay the bill at all.
Suicide. We see it stated in one of our
eichanges, that Robert Carmon, ended bis
tit-teiiee, in Huntingdon, on Friday, Jan
nary 8th, by shooting himself with a rifle.
Camion was a tiuner by trade, aud well
known to all our citizens he having work
ed fur .Mr. Merrill for several years, lie
served gallantly in the army during the late
ir, and it is to be regretted tbat his exis
tence was ended so tragically.
Ai.vektiser. To be succsfulin

Isaac M irrisou was indicted for the mur
der of John 11 itjrins, at Heed's mill, m-ar
0eeoIa, on the lotli day of July last. lor
rison was making lath i;i the basement of
the mill. Ili-rj-ins was working on the up
per part; sawing slabs and throwing them
down to the lath null. In the morning. soon
after the mill started, the clerk came on to
the mill and informed Ultririiis that theie
were complaints at the office of h's throw
ing down bad i-labs to tbe lath mill. Ilig
gins became' very angry, and went tlown
through the schute to the basement aud bail
some conversation with Morrison. lie came
up almost immediately, and soon after went
down a second time. He a-ked Morrison
whatd-d lies 1 was telling at the office.
Morrison moved away, and Higgins follow
ed. When Morri.-on got behind the lath
horse, on the opposite side of the room, he
seized an axe standing there and struck
Iliggins in the neck, cuttinr him so as to
expose the spinal marrow. Iliirtrins lingered
for eight days and died. His dviim declara
tions were in the following words, to wit:
"After the mill started I went down to
the lath-room where MonLson was working
and said, "tell me', Morrison, what lies you
have been Jt-Iliiig about the slabs? He re
plied, 'I will put h stop to your 1 othering
me.' He then reached and took the axe up
from where it was lying and came around the
lath-horse, savins; "now take that,' at the
same time striking me in the neck. I made
no motion to strike him or barm him in any
shape. Always teemed friendly to me."
There was a good deal of te-t inony on
both sides, the trial lasting three days. Mor
rison proved an exemplary character. He
vvas dvfeiide.l by 1. Test, and II. B. Swoope,
K-'l's. Mr. Test spoke tweury-five minutes. !
.Mr. Swoopc's. argument lasted three hours, !
and was conceded on all hands to have been i
a masterly effort. The Commonwealth was
ably re presented by District Attorney W.M.
