Yours, Pad. Leconte's Mill, Sept. 14th,lSf.S. Ed. Journal: The Republicans of Gi- rard town.-hip,a.s.-emh!ed at Congress Hill" School hour-e, on Fridayevening,Sept. 11th, as per previous notice. It was the largest and most enthusiastic meeting ever held in the township. The meeting was organized by electing ihos. Leonard, Esq., President; John Spaekman, Mitchell Shope, John R. Carr, and Simon Jury. Vice Preaideuts; and A. L. Hoover, Secretary. Capt. A. B. Hutchison was then call 2d on to address the meeting, and, I presume, he spoke plainly enough on the subjects ol taxation, reconstruction, etc., for our Dem ocratic friends, who were present, to fully comprehend the questions, if they had a desire so to do. T. H. Murray, Esq., nest addressed the meeting, briefly and to the point. He was followed by J. H Fulord, E-q., who spoke but a short time on account of the lateness of the hour, when the meeting adjourned. The people then dispersed, well pleased with the proceedings of the evening. After the close of the meeting the few Democrats who were present tried to raise a cheer for Seymour, but it sounded more like a corn-meal yell off a very weak stomach, such as used to be given by Seymour's friends down South after a rebel victory. Respectfully yours, Girard. Advice Heeded. "Push the Debt an 1 and Taxation upon public attention," wos the injunction of Mr. Seymour to his friend Ingersoll. Maine heeded his advice. The result he probably knows by tLis time. How docs he like it ? The Wat It opekatks. During the war every rebel victory sent up the price of gold, and every Union victory caused it to fall.
