Editor Journal : The Republicans of
Burn.-ide township assembled at Patchin
ville, on .Monday evening, August 31st, as
per previous notice. The meeting was or
ganized by electing Mr. D. Kime President,
and W. J. N igent Secretary.
T. II. Murray, Esq., was then called on
to address the people. His remarks were
able and convincing, and were received with
marked attention by the entire audience.
After speaking for about one hour, he re
tired from the .-tund amidst the shouts of
"po on, go on !"
The next speaker was J. II. Fuiford.Esq..
whose happy hits elicited frequent rounds
of applause. His re;narks were well timed
and to the point.
Ca;t. G. W. Curry, of Philadelphia, was
then called upon. His earnest, eloquent,
and forcible remarks carried conviction with
them, to the minds of all present.
The County Committee deserves great cred
it for having secured the services of such
gentlemanly and talented speakers. They
deal in facts alone, and preent them in a
forcible, loaicul and truthful manner, with
out that gasconade and bullying blackguard-i.-m
which to fr-quei tly characterizes polit
ical stump speaking.
In point of numbers, and of good order,
this meeting is believed to have been the
most respecta le of the kind ever assembled
in the township. At a late hour the miet
ing adjourned amid enthusiastic cheers for
Grant ami Colfax.
The Republicans of Burnside are wide a
wake and active.and wiil do their whole duty
