The Contractors, Engi neers, and Track-layers, were in town last week making some arrangement about the completion of the railroad. We have not learned what , was the result of their visit The management of the affair seems to be a sort of secret arrangement confined to a "ring" of three or four persons, who don't condescend to inform the "outside vulgar" what is going on. All the outsiders have to do is to "pay the piper" the "ring" does the dancing. Fire in Curwensville. On Thursday night the citizens of Curwensville were a- roused from their slumbers' by the cry of Fire ! It was soon discovered that the Foun dry of Jackson Robison was in flames. In a very short time all the people of the town were on the ground, and strenuous exertions were made to save the patterns, castings, etc. The flames spread so rapidly.that very few articles were got out of the building, which, with the engine, machinery, patterns, etc.. was totally destroyed. The property belonged to Mr. Wm. M'Bride, who had an insurance on the building. of $700, in the Lycoming Mutual. Mr. Robison's loss will nvor s ftofl. He had no insurance. The Foundry is to be re-built immediately. ... A New Book. Subscriptions are now be ing solicited in this county, by Agents, for a new work entitled "The Official History of the War. its Causes.
