Consolationtok Andy. -A Democrat ic poet down South, oii'erd Johnson the fol lowing consolation : We are coming, Brother Johnson Ye., we'll come a million strong, ' Bringing all things needful with us Our jug and demijohn. Yes, we're coming, Brother 'Andy ; Yes a million Ob I just think ! Bat not to fight much, Andy. ' ' But to take a social drink. . , " r The Atlanta correspondent of a Georgia paper tells of a chap who came down from one of the upper counties and encountered a man with a hand-organ covered with a green cloth. The man began to turn and the countryman put down a quarter, which the other immediately took up. Down went another, which shared the same fate, and then another. The stranger, finding his pile getting low, turned to a bystander and ' asked. "Mister, what sort of a game is this, anyhow ?". t - "Be You One?" A Getirleman travel ing through one of the rural precincts of a oertain country, rode up to a farm house and thus accosted a tow-headed urchin who was seated on the top of agate post : "Bub where's your pa?" ; The youngster replied : "Papa's just gone there beyant the cow shed to dig a grave to bury our old dog Towser. The darned old fool killed hisself a barkih at candidates for sheriff. Be you one? Our frind rode on. A novel application of sleeping car conve niencies is about to be made by the New York and Philadelphia delegates to the Chi cago Convention. Nine of Woodruff's sil ver palace cars have been chartered, which will convey the delegates from New York and Philadelphia to Chicago without change. The cars will then be shifted to a side track, and during the stay of the occu pants in Chicago, will be used, instead of over-crowded hotels, to sleep in. We believe that there has very rarely . been a great man who was not accused of being a drunkard ; insinuations of this kind are rife regarding D' Israelii; and if the idea of total abstinence had been hatched eighty years ago,we should have had George Washington handed down to us a toper, or probably he would be accused of chopping down the cherry tree for the sake of the cherry brandy, as a child breaks his drum for the music. "Mother!" exclaimed an affected young lady, just returned home from boarding school, "mother here is a grammatical error in the Bible!" "Law sakes," replied the old lady, adjusting her spectacles, "kill it ! kill it right off.for it's the pesty thing that's been eatin' up the book marks."
