Butter is still scarce here and is ten cents per pound higher than in Pitts burg.. Who" wouldn't live in Clearfield? Frost. Within the past week we had several heavy frosts in this county. Wheth er the fruit sustained any injury or not, in consequence, we have-not learned. New IIoteu We learn that our enter prising neighbor, Geo. N. Colburn, propri etor of the Clearfield House, has commenc ed the erection of a large hotel on his lots near the place selected for the Railroad de pot. Mr. Colburn could not make a more profitable investment. Dearth of Locals.. Things seems to be moving along so quietly in Clearfield, that we have no accirlents, catastrophiea, startling events, etc., to record. When the local column of a country paper is "short," it speaksVell for the peace, quietness, and prosperity of the people. Another Flood. The rains last week, caused a rise in the river sufficient to enable the lumbermen to get off the rafts that had been left behind on the former flood. Mer chants below, who Vave not secured their stock, had better take advantage of this, as it will be the last run of the season. Important Matter. A Aown having been laid out on the western side of the riv er, the next step is to extend the borough limits to include the addition. Indeed, the question of the borough limits needs regu lation badly. Nobody seems able to tell ex actly what is in the borough, and what is not. The original charter extended from Locust to Cherry street! How the addition al Jot got in, nobody knows. Something ought to be done about it at once. New Game Law. The last Legislature parsed a general game law, applicable alike to all parts, of the State. According to its provisions, it is unlawful to shoot, kill. trap, or destroy any blue-bird, swallow, or martin, or other insectivorous-bird at any season of the year. Deer, fawn or elk are only to be hunted or killed during the months of Sep tember, October and November ; wild tur keys, pheasants or rabbits, from September 1st. to January 1st ;. partridges or quails from October 20th to December 20th ; woodcock or snipe from September 1st to March 1st. No birds to be trapped or taken by means of nets, or any other method than by shooting, and no eggs to be destroyed. Penalty, a fine not exceeding $25 for each vffence, with costs, and imprisonment not exceeding thirty days. Jury List. Persons in want of his services will hereafter address him -at the above named place. The Democratic Foot Ball. It is very puzzling to know what the Democratic party is going to do about negro suffrage. iiltesolcea," says the last Dem ocratic State Convention of Ohio, "that we are opposed both in principle and policy to negro suffrage." "Resolved " on the other hand, says the last Democratic State Con vention of South Carolina, (of all the States in the Union ! ) "that we declare our willingness, when we have the power", to grant colored citizens, with proper quallifi cations as to property and intelligence, the right of suffrage." Resolved" again, say the Democrats of -Illinois, in State Con-, vention assembled, "that the right of suf frage shall be limited to the white race in this country." Still again, the scene chan ges to Georgia, where according to an en thusiastic letter written by B. II. Hill, a leading Democrat, "a very large torchlight procession of Democratic Niggers are marching through the streets." "Proclaim it," cries the joyful Mr. Hill, "throughout upper Georgia, that everything is safe!" Examiner. An Important Lesson. . One of the singular results of progress is the fact that improved farms are cheaper in the Eastern States, than in the West. This is accounted for by the fact that the spirit of speculation in the Erst, years ago,, drove the active portion of the laboring commu nity to the West. The landed lords of the East had imbibed the notion that they could monopolise all around them.but in their greed they drove labor from their midst, un til they now find themselves without the population from whose productive toil the rich are made richer and localities enhanced in value. The lesson of the East is a salu tary one. Of all lands in the world, the United States are the least adapted for a landed aristocracy, and the community which cheapens its lands is sure to become permanently prosperous and able to with stand all rivalry, because it will retain in its midst men of energy and small means, who are, after all, the real sources of solid prosperity. - The Washington Intelligencer remarks that "beyond the shores of time a disclosure will be made of these impeachers" who signed the letter indorsing General Butler's opinion of Judge Black's Alta Vela claim. It occurs to us that the period designated by the Intelligencer for the fearful disclos ure will be too late to be of much advantage to the President or of-much interest to the public. HOOFLANDS GERMAN BITTERS, A vvra HOOFLAND S GERMAN TONIC. THE GREAT REMEDIES For all diseases of the Liver, Stomach, or diges tive organs. Hoofland's German Bitters Is composed of the pure juices (or, as they are medicinally termed, extracts) of Roots, Herbs, and JUarks, making a prep axatioo, bighIy concen trated, and entirely free from alcoholic ad mixture of any kind. IIOOFLAJSV'S GEKAIAJV TUIVIC, Is a combination of all the ingredients of the Bit ters, with the purest quality of Santa Cruz Rum, Orange. Ac , making one of the most pleasant and agreeable remedies ever offered to the public. lhose preferring a Mcdicinefree from Alcohol ic admixture, will use HOOFLAND S GERMAN BITTERS. Those who have no objection to the combination of the Bittnrs, as stated, will use HOO t'LAN W S GERMAN TONIC They are both equally good, and contain the same medicinal virtues, the choice between tbe two being a mere matter of taste, the Tonio being the most palatable. Ihe stomacn, from a variety of causes, sued as Indigestion, Dyspepsia, Nervous Debility, etc., is very apt to have its functions deranged. The Liver, sympathizing - as closely ae ltdoes with tbe Stomach, then be comes affected.the result of which is that the patient suffers from several or more of the following diseases: Constipation, Flatulence, lnwaru Files, fulness of Ulood to the Head. Acidity of tbe btomacb, Nausea, Heartburn, i) if gust for Food, Fulness or Weight in the Stomach, Sour Eructations, Sinking or Fluttering at the Pit of the Stomach, Swimming of the Head, Hurried or Difficult Breathing, Fluttering at the Heart. Choking or Suffocating Sensations when in a Lying Posture, Dimness of Vision. Dots or Webs before the Sight, Dull Pain in tbe Head, Deficiency of Perspira tion, Yellowness of the Skin and Eyes. Pain in the Side, BacK.Chest, Limbs, etc., Sudden flush es of Heat, Burniag in the Flesh, Constant im aginings of Evil, and great depression of Spirits. The sufferer from hese diseases should exorcise the greatest caution in the selection of a remedy for his case, purchasing only that which he is as sured from his inves ligations and inquiries possesses true merit, O is skilfully compound ed, is free from injurious ingredidents, and has established for itself a reputation for the cure of these diseases. In this connnection we would submit those well-known remedies Hoofiand't German Bitter, and Jloofland's German Tonic, prepared by Dr. C. M. Jackson, Philadelphia, Pa. Twenty-two years since they were first intro duced into this country from Germany, during which time they have undoubtedly psrformed more eures, and benefitted suffering humanity to a greater extent, than any other remedies known to the public These remedies will effectually cure Liver Com plaint. Jaundice. Dvs nensia.Chronicor Ner vous Debility, Chron ic Diarrhoea, Disease of the Kidneys, nt all Diaeaaee ariaina; from a die ordered Liver, Stomach, or Intestines. JJUlilL.lI X. Resulting from any cause whatever; prostration of the syttem. induced by severe labor, hardships, exposure, fevers, etc. There is no medicine dxttkut equal to these rem edies in such cases. A tone and vigor is imparted to tbe whole system, the appetite is strengtbed, food is enjoyed, the stomach digests promptly, the blood is purified, the complexion becomes sound and healthy, the yellow tinze is eradicated from the eyes, a bloom is given to the cheeks, and the weak and nervous invalid becomes a strong and healthy being. PERSONS ADVANCED IN LIFE, And feeling tbe hand of time" weighing heavily upon them, with all Its attendant ills. will find in tbe use of this BITTERS, or the TONIC, an elixer that wilj instil new Mfe into their veins, restore in a measure the energy and ardor of mure youth ful days, build up their shrunken forms, and give health and happiness to their remaining years. NOTICE. It is a well established fact that fully one-half of the female portion of our population are sel dom in the enjoyment of good health; or, to use their own expres sion,"nevcrfeeI well." They are languid, devoid of all energy, extreme ly nervous, and have no appetite. To this class of persons the BITTERS, or the TONIC, is espe cially recommended. Dr. Jackson Dear Sir: I have been frequent ly requested to connect my name with recommen dations ef different kinds of medicines, but re garding the practice as out of my appropriate sphere, I have in all cases declined; but with a clear proof in various instances and particularly in my own family, of the usefulness of Dr. Hoofland's German Bitters, I depart for once from my usual course, to express my full conviction that, for general debility of the system, and especially for Liver Complaint, it tt a safe and valuable preparation. In some cases it may fail, but usually, I doubt not, it will be very ben eficial to those who suffer from the above causes. Yours, very respoctfully, J. H. KENNARD.8th.bel Coatesst. Fiom Rev. E. 1).
