CLEARFIELD, PA- APRIL 22, 1868.
BPAEKIKO SUNDAY EIGHT.
" Sitting in a corner,
Ona Sunday eve,
W ith a taper finger
Resting on your sleeve ; -
- Starlight eyea are casting -
On your face their light,
Bless me, ain't i?tleasant,
Sparking Sunday night .
How your heart is thutnpiDg
, 1 'Gainst your Sunday vest,
How wickedly it's working
On this day of rest.
Hours seem but minutes
As they take their flight,
Oh, bless me ain't it pleasant
- ; Sparking Sunday night.
Dad and mam are sleeping
On their peaceful bed,
- Dreaming of the things
The folks at meeting said :
"Love ye one another,"
. Ministers recite,
Bless me, don't we do it
Sparking Sunday night
One arm with gentle pressure
Lingers 'round her waist.
You squeeze her little hand,
Her pouting Hps you taste,
She freely slaps your face, .
' But more in love than spite,
Oh, thunder, ain't it pleasant,
Sparking Sunday night m
But hark, the clock is striking,
'Tis two o'clock I snum,
As sure as I'm a sinner
- The time to go has come.
You ask in spiteful accents
i If that old clock is right,
And wonder if it ever
Sparked on Sunday night.
One, two, three, sweet kisses,
Four, five, six, you hook,
But thinking that yoivrob her
You give back those you took ;
Then as towards home you hurry,
From the fair one's sight,
Oh, don' t you wish that each day
Was only Sunday night
The story is told of a temperance man,
being at a wedding was asked to drink the
bride's health in a glass of wine which was
offered him. He refused to partake of the
intoxicating liquid, and said when he drank
her health, it would be in that which re
sembled her most in purity, and he knew
nothing better than water pure water: He
then drank to her health in a glass of God's
beverage sparkling water. The ladies as
sembled on the occasion immediately step
ped forward, and making a respectful curt
sy, thanked him for the beautiful compli
ment he had just paid the fair bride, when
it wis resolved that all intoxicating drinks
be banished from the room.
Character. We may judge a man's
character by what ho loves what pleases
him. If a person manifests delight in low,
sordid objects, the vulgar song and debasing
language, in the misfortunes of his fellows
or cruelty to animals we may at once deter
mine the complexion of his character. On
the contrary, if he loves purity, modesty,
truth if virtuou pursuits engage his heart
and draw out his affections we are satisfied
that he is an upright,ruan.
The following is recomended as a recipe
for making ' Bologna sausage: Take an eel
. skin and stuff it with ground cat; season it
with Scotch snuff and persimmon oil ; lay
it on a hog pen to dry, and then hang it
up by the tail in a grocery for three months
for the flies to give it the trade mark, then
it is ready for use.
