The selection of Conferees, to meet the Con ferees of the other counties in this Con gressional District, for the purpose of elect ing a delegate to the National Convention at Chicago, having been overlooked at the late. County Convention, there will be a meeting of the County Committee, for that purpose, at my office in the borough of Clearfield, on the ISth day of March, 1868, at 7 o'clock, P. M. II. B. SwpoPE, March 4- Ch. Co. Committee. The Roads. Owing to the large quan tity of snow that has fallen within the las twelve days, and the action of the winds in drifting the same, ' many of the roads are impassable at this time. A few days, how ever, will suffice to make them in good trav elling condition again. Fire Alarm. On Saturday evening last, an alarm of fire was given in this place, and upon going to the place indicated, it was discovered that the shavings on the floor in the wagon shop of Win. R. Brown were on fire. The flames were speedily ex tinguished. No other damage resulted.' Still More now. On Monday, March 2:1, some twelve inches of snow was added to that which had previously fal en mak ing the entire depth, now lying on the ground in our forests, about five feet. The quantity ot snow covering the ground at this date exceeds, in depth, that ot any other winter since 18CG, when It was about the same. The Timber Business. The depth of snow pervading this region, will, for a time at lea.it, stop timber operations altogether. In our opinion, this is a very fortunate oc currence ; for, had the season continued fa vorable, both for making and hauling tim ber, we believe the quantity produced would have been in excess of the demand, and, as a consequence, the price been so low as to vause very serious losses to those who could least bear them the makers and small dealer.-. In fact, we believe, if there is not an other stick cut or hauled this season, the tim now on the banks of the streams will bring more money than if the quantity is increas ed one-fourth or one-third. We throw ou t these hints for the consideration of those most interested. Will they heed them ? riTT9m-nGii Feualf. College We once more invite tho attention ot' our reader to this excel lent institution, located in Pittsburgh. The buil dings, one hundred and forty eight feet in length, have been improved from year to year, until they are among the finest of their kind in the country. The ceilinga are high, the halls and rooms neatly prpered, and well lighted and ventilated, and ev ery arrangement made for the comfort and con venience of the pupils. The Faculty embraces twenty-two teachers, chosen with special refer ence to their fitness for the positions they occupy, and most of whom have had from five to twenty five years experience in their profession. Five of them are employed in tho. music department, French and German are taught by native teach ers There ?rc also special teachers tor all the other ornamental branches, such as Drawing, Fainting, Needlework, Wax Flowers, Ac. Every part of a thorough, solid and ornamental educa tion is amply provided for. The curriculum of studies is extensive, arranged with great care and with special reference to the mental derelpment and progress of the pupil. There is a thorough organization of the literary course into Primary, Preparatory and Collegiate, as well as special de partments for all the ornamental branches This arrangement affords special advantages. Not withstanding the advantages afforded are unsur passed by those of any ladies' school in the land, the charges are very moderate far less, indeed, than many schools which have fewer teachers and leas faculties. Not the least advantage is the moral tone which pervades the institution. The boarding pupils are under the special care of the President and his wife, and their constant effort is to make the College a Christian Home for all committed to their tuition. We cordially com mend the College to all our readers. The Spring Term will commence March 23d. Send to the President, Rev. f. C. Pershing, D. D., for a cat alogue.
