Sr.r.rous Accident. We learn that on Friday evening, Febuar3' 7th, Richard Bard, of Curwcnsville, this county, met with a se rous and painful accident under the follow iii circumstances: He was engaged with others, at" a log-slide on Sinnemahoning crock, near Caledonia, Eik county. A log laving caught in the slide and caused a jam, young Bard had gone to loosen it. After ing the usual signal, he proceeded to B,Jik, thinking all was right; but the signal failing to be heard by the men above' they started another log, which sped on its way with fearful velocity. Mr. Bard was 'taading on the slide endeavoring to remove the obstruction, when he heard the log coming, but before he could get out of.its ff:iV it was upon him, and jammed his foot and lower part of the leg between the de fending and stationary logs--cru;ing tie &-'sa and bone into a flat and mangled m iss "ot over one inch in thxkness. In this condition he reached the nearest shanty Wing dragged himself along in the slide fur more than a quarter of a mile, rolling himself out over the edge whenever he heard 1 ks coming ; for the men continued to put in the slide, unconscious of what had cc furred. But for bis determined perseverance ''iireachinstitesrianty.and in the face of the Potest dansrer to his life, he would have terisbed from the intense cold his cotu-i 'les above having surmised his going to the wit 8i,anty when he did not return. The was amputated about mid- way between . e neeand ankle, and at last accounts the lDJireJ man was doing as well as the nature of te case would warrant. . . ' . .... Hote3 From Earriabarg. . The contents)! this ballot-box are certain ly a curiosity, the like of which will be hard to tind. The testimony, so far, has developed the tact that sixty men voted at I hillmsijurg. Centre county, on naturalization certificates J purporting to have been issued by the Court of Luzerne county, on the 2Sth Sep teuiber, 1806. lhe names ot these sixty voters were shown to the Democratic IVo thoootaryof that county, who was before the CMiiiuittee. and after comparing them with his naturalization record, testified that not one of these men, or men with these names, were naturalized in that Court at that time. Being shown one of the natu ralization papers, he testified that the print ed part was similar to the cenuine blanks ued by him, and that the seal on it looked like the impression of the genuine seal; but that the signature was not his, nor was the filling up in the h ud-writitig of him self or any of his clerks. The committee went to Luzerna county, the lattcv part of last week, to fully tatLsfy themselves as to whether or not any of the names here refer red to were to be found upon the records of tint county." It is alleged that proof will Le prasenfed to slijwthaf forged certificates were issued by the thousands in Luzerne county, that 3,.Ci;) of them were vo:e J on i:i that comity in 186'fi, and that, they were sold openly in Scrantori and Wilksbarre for ?1.7o each. Little doubt exists that two Democratic State Senators were elected with them lat fall. Judie Sharswood was elected with them. Judge Woodward was elected with I hem. And they intend fr carry the State next tall with them, if their schemes are not frustrated. The testimony now being taken reveals (if correctly represented now) one of the mo.it stupendous plans of fraud ever at tempted in this State, or that ever entered into the he-id of aov man. But the evi dence when published will settle ail uoubtson this point. A bill has leen presented in the House propo -iiig to raise the fees of the county ofu crs thr)Mr!iruc the i tare, the counties of Philadelphia, Bradford, and one nr two more excepted, twenty per cent. This will a Id just turn-fifth to their present generous incomes. It will l)i well for the lecixlators to recolhct that the people have most em phatically pronounced for retrenchment. and that retrenchment means the cutting down of expenses not the swell:nr of them. Leg islation does not consist in disbursements. There have boen creat statesmen who have made reputations by guarding the treasury. MARRIED: In Lutnber-citv.on Sundav, February 2d. 1K6S. by James P.
