CLEARFIELD, VA., OCT. lfi, 1867.
Demetrius, King of Macedon, would at
times retire from business. On one ot these
occasions, giving out that he was tick, his
father Autegonus, came xuddcniy to visit
him, and met a fair damsel comijig out ot
liia rooai. When Antigonus came in, De
metrius said: "Sir, the fever has just left
me." Antegonius replied: ' I think it
was it I just met at the door.'
A school boy being'- aAed tt define the

school master, "what sort of a definition do

A young man who atteuded church in
Minneapolis, Minpessota, last Sunday a
week, went to sleeu during the service, and
while sleeping suddenly arose to his feet,
and with violent gestures exclaimed, 'I
won't do it! lam goin to bed!" He was
prevented from retiring in so public a place
by being awakened.
Bashful Women. Bashful women are

-1- Act of Congress approved June 6, J8t0.
gives additional pension to the following class of
persons :
1. To those who have lost both eyes or both
ha ids, or are totally disabled in the same so as
to require constant attendance, the sum, per
month, of - $25,00
2. To those who have lost both feet, or are to
tally disabled in the same, so as to require con
stant attendance, $20 00
3. To those who have lost one hand or one foot.
or so disabled as to render them unable to per
form manual labor equivalent to thelossof a
hand or foot, the sura, per month, of S15 00
4. Persons deprived of their . pensions under
Act of March 3d, 1865, by reason of being in civ
il service are restored.
5. The heirs of invalid pensioners who died af
ter application for their pension had been filed
and before the certificate was issued, and who
have left widows or minor children, will be enti
tled to receive arrears duo at the death of the
pensioner.
6. Pensions are extended to dependent fathers
and brothers, the same as to mothers and sisters
In all of these cases, new applications must bo
