CLEARFIELD, PA., SEPT. 4, 1867
SHARSWOOD OITLEGAL TENDERS.
Extract from His Opinion in the Case of
Li - ' Boriers. Trott.
' "On the whole, then, I aw of opinion
that the provision of the act of Congress of
February 25th, 1862, declaring the notes is
sued in pursuance of that act to be lawful
money, and a legal tender, i unconstitu
tional' ' ' ' "' '
This renders it unnecessary that I should
consider the other quettion which has been
made, as to the effect of the special agree
ment to pay in lawful silver money of the
United States. I am in favor of entering
judgment for the plaintiff, but as a majori
ty of the court are of a different opinion,
judgment for thedefendant-" Copied from
the Philadelphia Age of February r 23, 1864,
where theopinion is published in full.
It may also be found in the Legal ''Intelli
gencer of March 18, 1864, page 92.
In the same copy of the Age is a carefully
prepared eulogy of the Judge and this
opinion, in which is the following :
"Judge Sharswood reasons upon and de
cides the case.aa if he were some lofty spir
it sitting far above and out of the conten
tions and strifes of the world."
Will not the.holders of greenbacks and
liovernuient bonds consider tne judge as
aaite too elevated and ethcrial for such
earthly honors as a seat on the Supreme
Bench.

A GREAT DISCOVERY. One of the
greatest and most useful discoveries in
medical science was made by the celebrated Dr."
J Dumas, of Paris. Chief Physician to the Impe
rial Infirmary of France, in 1861. Those who
hare been afflicted with the painful disease known
as tbe Piles, and effectually cured by the use of
Dr. Dumas' Frehch Pile Salve, cannot speak too
highly of the benefits conferred upon them by
the use of this certain remedy. It has nerer
been known to fail in effeotine a nermanent cn
in 8 single case. In this respect it surpasses all
other medicines of the kind It will do just
what it ia recommended for ; if not, the money
will be refunded. One or two boxes is sufficient
to effect a permanent cure in four or six days, if
the directions on the box are followed. Prioe one
