THEY SAY. : '
, They say Ah ! well, suppo.e they do,
But can they prove the story true ? .
Suspicion may arise fro:u naught
- But malice, envy, want of thought ;
Why count yourself among the "they
Who whisper what they dare not say T
They say But why the tale rehearse,
And help to make the matter worse ?
No good can possibly accrue -Prom
telling what may be untrue ;
And is it not a nobler plan
To speak of all the best you can ?
They say Well, if it should be so.
Why need you tell the tale of woe t
Will it the bitter wrong redress,
Or make the pang of sorrow less?
Will it the erring one restore,
Henceforth to 'go and sin no more?"
They say Oh ! pause and look within,
See how thine heart inclines to sin ;
- Watch, lest in dark temptations hour,
Thou too shouldst sink beneath its power ;
Pity the frail, weep o'er their fall,
But speak of good, or not at all.
Women often fancy themselves in love
when they are not. The love of being lov
ed, fondness of flattery, the pleasure of giv
ing pain to a rival, passion for novelty and
excitement, are frequently mistaken for
something far better and holier, till mar
riage dis enchants the fair self-deceiver and
leaves her astonished at her own indifference
. and the evaporation of her romantic fancies.
At Guelph, Canada, recently, a country
youth, attending the circus, offered the ele
phant a plug of tobacco. The sagacious an
imal, which had probably been tricked the
same way before, stretched out its probos
cis, as if to take the tobacco, but instead,
suddenly seized the wight's hand and after
chawing it to a mass of pulp, threw it down
at the feet of the owner.
" A little daughter of J. Roach, of Albany,
was stolen by a band of gipsies two years
ago, and all search for her proved fruitless.
A few days since the same band took up
their residence near Tivoli IIollow, when a
boy, who knew the lost child, saw and re
cognized her, and the chili was restored to
its parents.
A nobleman asked a clergyman once at his
table, "why the goose, if there was one, was
always placed next to the parson?" "He

but your question is so odd that I shall nev

A young lady at Boston, seeing a parcel
lying on the pavement on Saturday, stoop

and at the same instant snatched her watch

his escape.
A couple of females, who, it is stated,

CONSUMPTION CURABLE BY DR
Vl SCHENCK'S MEDICINES.
To eure consumption, the system must be pre
pared so that the lungs will heal. To accomplish
this, the liver and stomach must first be cleansed
and an appetite created ior good wholesome food
which, by these medicines will be digested prop
erly, and good healthy blood made; thus huild
'i??, U? 0 constitution. Schenck's Mandrake
fillscleanse the stomach of all billious or mucu
ous accumulations; and, by using the Sea Weed
Tonic in connection, tho appetite is restored.
Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup is nutritious as well
as medicinal, and, by using tbe three romedies.
all impurities are expelled from she system, and
good, wholesome blood made, which will repel all
disease. , If patients will take these medicines
according to directions, consumption very fre
quently in its last stage yields readily to their ac
tion. Take the Pills frequently, to oleanse the
liver and stomach. Itdoes not follow that because
the bowels are not costivo they are not required,
lor sometimes in diarrhea tbey are necessary.
The stomach must be kept healthy, and an appe
tite created to allow the Pulmonic Syrup to act
on the respiratory organs properly and allay an
irritation. Then all that is required to perform
a permanent cure is, to prevent taking cold Ex
ercise about the rooms as much as possible, eat all
the richest focd-fat meat, game and, in fact,
anything the appetite craves; but be particular
and masticate well. Oct 17, 1866 2 j
