Lawrence County. Robert Sturgeon,
of Union township, was killed instantly by
lightning; Thursday afternoon, 'July 25th.
He was out in a field with a! nephew at work,
and when the rain came up, thinking it
would soon be over, they went to a tree for
shelter, and when there only a few moments
the electric fluid passed down the tree kil

Centre County. A laborer at the glass
works, near Bellefonte, by name of William
Clark, a few days since while hunting stone
to cover a trench, was bitten oh the wrist
by a copperhead snake, measuring some 4
feet in length. Luckily the man had on a
flannel wrist band, which doubtless saved
his life. He is now well and at his work
again. So says the Watcliman. Lucky fel
low, indeed! for had' he been bitten by a
'copperhead' of the Watchman species he
would never have recovered from the effects
of the venom instilled into his system.
Pittsburg Female College. We have
been favored with a copy of the Catalogue
of this flourishing ami highly popular Fe
male College. The faculty consists of tweu
tyrtwo members. "During the last year 413
students were in attendance. The building
is three stories high, 143 feet in length by
100 feet in width, and superbly finished and
furnished. The locality is pleasant, and for
health! ulness and accessibility Pittsburg is
unsurpassed. Owing to the superior advan
tages afforded at this institution, for a thor

unexcelled by any similar college in the
State. We would advise our readers to send

' Wirr Folks Read Locals. An old lo
cal.who ought to know all about things per
taining to his department, says people read
items of local interest for reasons as oppo
site as man and wife. A. reads about a
fight because he was. there , and saw it ; B.
because he wasn't and didn't; . (I beeaue
he had heard of it ; D. because he hadn't ;
while those who had a hand in it, want to
know how much of truth concerning them
the editor has deemed compatible iu its ut
terances " with a continuation of his own
earthly career. The consciousness, too, that
hundreds of others are simultaneously pe
rusing the same article, and that it is there
fore a subject of common thought and con
versation, doubtless add to the zeal with
which ordinary readers eagerly devour arti
cles that otherwise would have but a dull
perusal, or no perusal at all.
A Child with Two Heads and Four Arm.
The Chippewa, (Wis.,) Chiom, of July
20th, says : On Tuesday of thw ,week, we
wituessed with our own eyes, and not anoth
er's, one of the most remarkable objects
that ever breathed the breath of Heaven
the body of a child with two perfect heads
and four complete, well-formed arms. The
lower limbs are natural, and also the ex
treme lower part of the body. Just above
the hips the body begins to increase in size,
the back-b ne branching out to right and
left and diverging sufficiently to give room
forttwo shoulder-blades between them, in
their proper position, the distinct two forms
beginning their se arate existence just below
the arm-pits. In front, the body below the
navel appears natural. Above that point it
gradually branches out into two separate or
ganizations, the breast-bones being joined.
The vital organs are all double. The shoul
ders and necks are all perfect, and the heads
an well formed. The features are regular
and well devoloped, one head appearing to
be that of a male, while the features ot the
other resemble those of a female. The gen
itals of the male are perfect.. Like the Si
amese twins, the two faces inclined towards
each other, the back of the body being
broader than the front part. The inside
arms are in such a position as to natur lly
twine around the little necks, each of its
fellow, giving a pleasing effect. The weight
of the body, after having been somewhat
reduced by the process of embalming, was
eight pounds. .Altogether, this is a won
derful speciu en of the genus man.
The child was 'born in this village, on
Sunday, the 14rh inst., Drs. J. A. Macdon
ald and Alex. McBean Jeing in attendance.
One side lived a few minutes after being
ushered into this strange world, and then
die j, while the other did not breathe.
Never were there so many dry goods and

munerative may be the pay.
