CLEARFIELD, PA., MAY 22, 1867.
AH OLD MAH'S DBEAM.
Oh, for one hour of youthful joy !
Give Lack my twentieth .-piiif!
I'd rather laugh a brrfht-iiairOd Loy
Than reign a grey-haired king.
03" with the wrinkled spoils of age ;
Away with learning's crown ;
Tear out life's wisdom-written page,
And dah its trophies down.
One moment let my life-U'd stream
From boyhood's fount of name!
Give me ond giddy, reeling dream
Of life, all love and fame !
My listening angel heard the prayer,
And calmly smiling said,
"If I but touch thy j-ilvered hair,
Thy hasty wish had sped.
"But is there nothing in my track
To bid the fondly stay.
While the swift seasons hurry back
To find the wished for day ?"
Ah truest soul of woman kind!
Without thee what were life ?
One bliss I cannot leave behind
I'll take my precious wife !
The angel took a sapphire pen,
And wrutc in rainbow dew:
"The-man would be a boy again,
And be a husband, too !
"Is there another pet unsaid
Before the change appears ?
Remember all their gifts have fled
With those devolving years!"
Why, yes, I would one favor more
My fond paternal joys
I could not bear to leave them all;
I'll take my girls and boys.
The smiling angel dropped his pen
"Why, this will never do;
The man would be a boy again,
And be a father, too 1"
And so I laughed my laughter woke
The household with its noise.
I wrote my dream when morning broke,
To please the grey-haired boys.
Another Volcano. A new volcano has
appeared in the South Seas. near one of the
Navigator s islands, it is m the tea, ana
was proceeded by a violent earthquake shock,
on September 5th, 186ft. After this dense
smoke arose, and then lava, and in the mid
dle of November the smoke and lava were
still being thrown up in great quantities.
The disturbance of the sea and the stilling
character of the smoke prevented an exam
ination of the place to see whether the bank
Lad been thrown up.
Congressional Mileage. The mileage
drawn by a delegate in Congress from Wash-
ing Territory is about $ 11,000 for each ses
sion. The delegate from the Territory of
New Archangel, in the Russian possessions,
would make his compensation equal to that
of tha President of the United States.
This would make politics lively among the
Esquimaux.
Thirty gallons of ice cream were sold
daily in the Southern Relief Bazaar in Rich
mond. , :
