Serious Accident. On Friday evening,
July 2Uth, Mrs. O. D Merrell, of this Bor
ough, and her mother, Mrs. Nichols, and
Mrs. Gaulin, met with a very 'serious acci
dent, by being thrown from a carriage. The
circumstances, as near as we can learn, are
as follows : The ladies above named, had
gone on a visit to some relatives, a num
ber of miles in the country, in a two-horse
arriage, in the morning. On their way
home, in the evening, as they were coming
dowo a hill, about two and a half miles
from this place, the horses took fright at a
itunip on the side of the road and ran
away. Mrs. Gaulin threw her child out of
the back part of the carriage and then
jumped out herself, without sustaining any
damage, but the child was bruised a little.
After the horses ran a short distance they
kicked the front part off the Carriage, when
Mrs. Nichols and a small boy fell down at
the heels of the horses Mrs. Nichols re
ceiving several severe bruises on the arm
and shoulder.from which she suffered much.
while the boy waa but Blightly hurt v The
norses continuing on a short distance . fur
ther ran the carriage against a etamp.hreak
mg it to pieces, and becoming detached left
at the top of their speed. Here Mrs Mer
rell was thrown out. .(with her little child,
which escaped unhurt,) and when discov
ered waa lying some fifteen feet ahead of
the carriage in an unconscious condition.
She waa taken to Mr. Antes', near by, and
medical aid summoned. Upon, investiga
tion it was found that she had received a se
vere cut near the right ear, . and that her
Kull was slightly fractured. She was after
wards conveyed to her home.on a stretcher,
by a number of our citizens, where she has
ken lying ir a very critical condition ever

The Clymer Soldiers" Meeting. Tn
accordance with full previous notU'e given, 1
the soldiers of Clearfield county, - ''whose
views accord" with the call of the Harris
burg Convention, gotten up in the interest
of Hiester Clymer, and which is to assem
ble on the 1st day of August, met in the
Court House in Clearfield, on Tuesday, J u
ly24th. As the meeting sat with . closed
doors, we have no report of its proceedings,
but learn that it consisted of the following
individuals, to wit: Col. W. Barrett, Capt.
J. S, M'Kiernan," '. Capt. M. Ogden, Sur
geon J. P. Birchfield, and privates R. H.
Shaw, R, S. Carr, D. Buck, A. J. Jackson,
J. D. Jackson, E. Ball, C.'Larrimer, and
Jos. Bowles, 12 all told, and a few privileg
ed individuals of the 'Copperhead persua
sion. Seven delegates were appointed to,
attend the Harrisburg Clymer Convention,
but we were not fortunate enough to learn
their names. As this meeting will probably
be paraded all over the State s a grand
outpouring of the Clymer soldiers of Clear
field county, we have taken some pains to
gather all the particulars we could, so that
the extent, character and importance of the
demonstration might be fully understood a
broad as well as at home. If we have omit
ted the name of any soldier in attendance,
we shall take great pleasure in stating the
fact hereafter. '
t Valuable to Farmers. The leaves of
the alder, if strewn among corn or other
grain when it is put into the bin, will effec
tually preserve it from the ravages of the
weevil. The juice will also kill bedbugs
and maggots. Insects never touch alder
bushes. The leaves of the alder scattered
over cabbages, cucumbers and other plants
subject' to the ravages of insects, will effect
ually shield them. The plum and other
fruits may be saved by placing on .the
branches and among them bunches of alder
leaves. ' "' ; '-' "

Dear Sir : I have been a suffer
er? for upwards of twenty yearn, with
gravel, bladder,' and kidney affections,
during which .'im I hare used various medicinal
preparations, and been nnder. the treatment of
the most eminont physicians, experiencing but
ntue reuei: -
Haying seen your preparations ex
tensively advertised. I consulted with my family
pnysioian in regard to using your isxtraot iiucbu.
"I did this because I used all kinds
of advertised remedies, and had found
them worthless, and soma quite injurious ; in fact,
I despaired of ever getting well, and determin
ed to use no remedies unless I knew of the ingre
dients. : It wai this that prompted me to use your
remedy As you advertised that it was compos
ed of bcchc, cubicbs. and- jttnipbr BERKia, it oc
curred, to me and my physician as an excellent
combination, and. with hit advice, after an exam
ination of the article, and consulting again with
the druggist. I eonculuded to try it. I commen
ced its use about eight months ago, at which time
I was confined to my room. From the first bot
tle I was astonished and gratified at the benefi
cial effect, and arter using it three weeks, was a
ble to walk out. I felt much like writing yon a
full statement of my case at the time, bat thought
my improvement might only be temporary and
therefore concluded to defer and see if it would
effect a perfect care, knowing then it would be of
greater value to yon vnd more satisfactory to me
I am now able to report that a Cure
is effected after using th.reidedy for
five months. V. -.:
- I have not used any now for three
months, and feel as well iu all respects
as t ever nia. .
