Sabfcatb School Celebration.
FniEND BoaV: A very pleasant Sabbath
School ct-lebratiou came off at the Camp
ground, near Harmony Church, in Burn
side township, on July 4th, So5. At an
early hour, the Harmony School was joined
in procession, by t!u Xewburir and Kik'kk
Schools, which proceeded a short distance
and met the E:sr Bidge and Ploaant-Valley
Schools. All tho schools were then
formed in one procession, under the direc
tion of Lieut. W. Hewitt, Marshall of the
day, and inarched back to the camp ground,
amidst the waving of banners, and keeping
tteep to the lively music of a martial band.
The assemblage was called to order by
Mr. John M'Ca. dell, and on motion Rev.
J. D. Domar was chosen President; Bev.
W. B. Pur ly, Vhe President, and Jac-Lsoit
PaU-hiti. Secretary.
The exercises of the day were opened by
prayer by Bev. G. Domar. A short a 1 Iros
was then deUveml by Bev. J. D. Domar,
after which the Declaration of Independence
was read by Bev. ii. B. Hamlin. The Sab
bath Svhool scholars were nest addressed
by Bev. W. B. Purdy, and the citizens by
ll' V. II. Ash ; after which all partook of a
most sumptuous collation, prepared for the
occasion by a committee of ladies.
After all present had partaken freely of
the good things set before them, the assem
blage was again called to order, w hen a U
niitu address was delivered by Bev. J. B
HempSeld, which received the approbation
of all tru-3 Union friends. The soldiers
present were then addressed by Bev. B. B.
Hamlin, who responded in a lively tune of
martial music to the glowing tribute paid
them by the speaker.
On motion, thanks were returned to the
speakers and musicians, for the part they
took in the exercsses and that the proceed
ings be published in the Raftsman's Juur-
Good feeling and harmony prevailed
throughout the entire exercises; and it was
truly a pleasing sight to witness so Targe a
number of children assembled together,
whose smiling faces and cheerful voices be
tokened that they were thanktful to their
parents and friends for the gnjnd collation
on the occasion. It was indeed a cheerful
ud happy day, and will long be renieniber-.

I-The Oil Well. The operation of bor
ing .still progresses, and it is in contempla
tion to sink the well to a depth of one thou
sand feet before abandoning the oil project.
Should the company fail to- strike oil at that
depth, then it i.s the intention of erecting
works for the manufacture of salt the salt
water obtained last week being of very su
perior quality which, no doubt, will prove
a very profitable investment. TKe oil corn
pan." intend to sink another well either on
lloaring Bun or Montgomery creek, in a
short time. That oil exists in this county
there is lit tie doubt, and we hope that the
proper efforts will be made to induce its de
velopment. All that is wanted is energy
and enterprise to obtain the necessary ma
c-hinery, and soon the oil itself will flow
from the earth i great abundance.

U. S. 7-30 LOAN,
THIRD SSRXSS.
S230,000,000'.
By authority of the See ret try of the Treasury,
the undersigned, the Goneral Subsorip Uon Agent
for the sale of United States seourities, offers te
the public the third series of Treasury Note,
bearing seven and three-tenths per esnt. interest
per annum, known as the
7-30 LOAN.
These notes are issued under date of Jaly lfttfe,
1365, and are payable three years from that date
in currency, or are convertible at the option wt
the holder into
U. S. 5-20 Six per cent.
GOLD-BEARING BONDS,
These Bonds are now worth a handsome premi
um, and are exempt, as are all the Government
Bonds, from State, County, and Munioipal taxa
tion, whioh adds from one to thrie per oent. per
annum to their value, aooording to the rate levied
upon other property. The interest is payable semi
annually by coupons attached to each note, whieh
may be cut off and sold to any bank or banker1.
The interest at 7.o0 per ct. amount to
One cent per day on a $50 note.
Two cents per day on a 100 note.
Ten cents per day on a ?500 notv.
20 cents per day oii,a 1000 uoic.
1 per day on a 5000 note'.
Notes of all the denominations named win b
promptly furnished upon receipt of subscriptions.
The Notes of this third series are precisely sim
ilar ia form and privileges to the Seven-Thirties
already sold, except that the Government reserve
to itself the option of paying interest in gold coin
at 6 per cent., instead of 7 3-10ths in currency.
Subscribers will deduct the interest in curreno
up to July 15th at the time they subscribe.
The delivery of the notes of this third series of
the Seven thirties will commence on the 1st of
Jane, and will be made promptly and contiuous
ly after that date. The slight change made ia
the conditions of this Third Scries affects only the
matter of interest. The payment in gold, if made,
will be equivalent to the currency interest of the .
higher rate.
The return to specie payments, in the event ot
which enly will the option to pay interest in Gold
be availed of, would so reduce and equalise pri
ces that purchases made with six per cent, in gold
would be fully equal to those made with seven and
three-tenths per cent in currency. This is
The Only Loan in Market
Now offered by the Government, and its superior
advantages make it the
Great Popular Loan of the People.
Less than $200,000,000 of the Loan authorised
by the last Congress are now on the market. This
amount, at the rate at which it is being absorbed
will all be subscribed for within two months, whea
the notes will undoubtedly command a premium,
as has uniformly been the case on closing the
subscriptions to other loans.
In order that the citizens of every town and
section of country may be afforded facilities for
taking the loan, the National Banks, State Banks,
and Private Bankers throughout the country have
generally agreed to receive subscriptions at par.
Subscribers will select their own agents, in whom
they have confidence, and who only are to be re
sponsible for the delivery of the notes for whioh
they receive orders.
