HOSTETTERS'
" CELEBRATED
STOMACH BITTERS,
A puro and powerful Tonic, Corrective and
Alterative of wonderful efficacy in
- disc.iHu of tho
Stomach, Liver and Bowels. :
Cores, Dyspepsia,' Liver Complaint, Headache,
General Debility, Nervousness. Depression of
Spirits. Constipation, Colic, Intermittent
Fevers, Cramps and Spasms, and all
Complaintsof cither .Sex, arising -from
Eodily Weakness whether inherent in tho
. system or produced by special causes.
Nothing that is not wholesome, genial and re
storative in its-nature enters into the composition
of HosMter's Stomach Bitters. This popular
preparation contains no mineral of any kind, no
deadly botanical element; no fiery excitant ; but
it is a combination of tho extracts of rare balsam
ic herbs and plants with tho purest and mildest
of all dilfusive stimulants.
It is well to be forearmed against disease." and,
so far as the human rystem win be protected by
human means against maladies engendered by an
unwholesome atmosphere. Impure water and oth
er external causes, Hostetters Bitters may be re
lii;d on as a safeguard. , . .,
In districts infested with Fever ami Asrue, it has
been found infallible as a preventive and irresis
tisle as a remedy and thousands who resort to it
under apprehension of on attack escape the
scourge; and thousands who neglect to avail
themselves of its protective qualities in advance,
are cured by a very brief course of this marvel
ous medicine. Fever and Ague patients, alter be
ir g plied with quinine lor months in vain, until
fairly satured with that dangerous alkaloid, are
nit unfvequently restored to health within a few
diys by the use of Hostetrer's Bitters.
The weak stomach is rapidly invigorated an i
tho appetite restored Ly this agreeable Tonic. and
hence it works wonders in cases of Dispepsia cud
in less confirmed forms of Indigestion Acting as
a gentle and painless apperier.t, as well as upon
the liver, it also invariably relieves the Constipa
tion superinduced by irreguiar action of tbo di
gestive uud secretive organs.
Persons of feeble habit, liable to Nervous At
tacks. Lowness of Spirits and Fit3 of Languor.find
prompt and permanent relief from the Bitters.
The testimony on this point is most conclusive,
and-from both sexes.
The agony ofBillious Colic is immediately as
suaged by a single dose of tho atimulent. and by
occasionally resorting to it, the return of the com
plaint may be prevented.
As a General Tonic, llostetter's Bitters produce
effects which must be experienced or witnessed
before they ean be fully appreciated. In cases of
Constitutional Weakness, Premature Decay and
Debility and Decrepitude arising from Old Age,
it exercises the electrio influence. In tho conva
lescent stages of all disoases it operates as a de
lightful invigorant. When the powers of nature
are relaxed, it operates to re-enforco and re-establish
them.
Last, but not least, it ia the only safe Stimulcnt,
being manufactured from sound and innocuous
materials, and entirely tree from the acid ele
ments present more or les in all the ordinary
tonics and stomachics of tho day.
The immense increase ia the sale of llostetter's
Bitters, both at homo and abroad, during tho past
year proves that the world, while it obeys the
Scriptural injunction to '-try all things." only
"Holds fast to ' that which is good' Spurious
preparations, like poisonous fungi, aro continual
ly springing up. but their character is soon dis
covered, and they aro '-flung like worthless weeds
away." On the other hand, a great antidote that
performs all it promises, and even more than its
proprietors claimed for it on its introduction, is
'not for a day, but for all time."
No family medicine has been so universally. and,
it may be truly added, deservedly popular with
tho intelligent portion of the community, as llos
tetter's Bitters.

Although not disposed to favor or recommend
Patent Medicines in general, through distrust of
their ingredients andeiFeets; I yet know of no
sufficient reasons why a man may not testify to
the benefts ho believes himself to have received
from any simple preparation in the hope that he
may thus contribute to the benefit of others.
' 1 do this the more readily in regard to Hoof
land's German Hitters, preparod by Dr. C. M.
Jackson, of this city, because I was prejudiced a
gainst them for many years, under the impres
sion that they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture.
I am indebtsd to my friend Robert Shoemaker,
Esq., for the removal of this prejudico by proper
tests, and for encouragement to try them, when
suS'ering from great and long continued debility.
Ihcusoof three bottles of these Bitters, at the
beginning of the present year, was followed by
evident relief, and restoration to a degree of bod
ily and mental vigbr whiiih I had not felt for 9ix
months before, and had almost despaired of rc
gaining. I therefore thank God and my friend
for directing ma to the use of them.

Palaticli'i:ia, August 23rd, 1SC2.
Messrs. Joneidf Jvuat. Vcll, gentlemen,) our
Ilooliand's German Bitters has saved my life.
There is no jui.-t"ke in this. It is vouched for
by numbers of my comrades, seme of whose names
are appended. .-.Jid v.-h- were fully cognizant of
nil tho circuListances of my case. I am. and
have been lor the last four years, a member of
Sherman's celebrated battery, and under the im
mediate command of Capt. R B. Ayres. Through
the expo sure attendant upon my duties, I was
attacked in November List with inflammation of
the lungs, and was for seventy-two days in the
hospital. This was followed "by great debility,
heightened by an attack of dysentery. I was then
removed from the White House, and sent to this
city on board the Steamer ' State of Maino,' from
which I landed on the 2th of Juno. Since that
time 1 have been about as low as any ono could
be and still retain u spark of vitality. Eor a
week or more I was scarcely able to e wallow any
thing, and if I did force a morsel down, it was
immediately thrown up again.
I could not even keep a glass of water on my
stomach. Life could not last uuder these circum
stances; an J. accordingly, tho physicians who
had been working faithfully, though ursuceess
fully, to rescue me from the grasp of the dread
Archer, frankly told me they could do r.o more
Itr me. and advised me to see u clergyman, and
to make such disposition of my limited funds aa
best suited mo. An acquaintance who visited me
fit the hospital, Mr. Frederick Stetnborn. of Sixth
below Arch Street, advised me, as a forlorn hone.
to try your Bitters, and kindly procured a bottle.
From the time I commenced: taking them the
gloomy shadow of death receded, anil I am now
thank God for it. getting hotter. Though I have
tnscn but two bottles, I have gained ten pounds,
and I feel sanguine of being permitted to rejoin
my v,ifo and daughter, from whom I havo heard
nothing for eighteen months: for. gentlemen, I
am a loyal Virginian, from the vicinity of Front
iroyal. To your iuvuluablo Bitters I owe tho cer
tainty of life which has taken place of vnguc fears
to your Bitters will 1 owe the glorious privi
lege of again clasping toiny bosom those who are
dearest to me in life.
Very truly yours, Isaac Malone.
