Although not disposed to favor or recommend
Patent Medicines irt general, through distrust of
tneir ingrearonts and effects; I yet know of bo
suaKMent reasons why a man may not testify tn
the benefits he believes himself to have received
Trom any sia.plo preparation in the hope th&tktf
may thus contribute to the bineSt of others.
I do this the wore readily in regard to Hoof-"
land s-German Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M.
Jackson, of this city, because I was prejudiced a
gaint them for many years, under the impres
sion tkat they were chiefly an alcoholic mixture.
I am indebud t my friend Robert Shoemaker,
Esq , fur the removal of this prejudice by proper
tests, an 1 for encouragement to try them, when
suffering from great and long continued debility.
The use of three bettlesof thesa Bitters, at th
beginning of the present year, wks ftdlowed by
evident relief, aud restoration to a degree of bod
ily and mental vigor which I had not felt for si
months before, and had almost despaired of re
gaining. I therefore thank God aad my friend
for directing me to the uie of them.

the expo sure Attendant upon my duties, I was
attacked in November last with inflammation of
tho lungs, and was for seventy-two davs in the"
hospital. This was followed by great'debility.
heightened by an attack of dysentery. I was then
removed from the White House, and sent to this
city on board the Steaiaer "State of Mame.' from
which I landed on the 28th of June. Since that
time 1 have been about as low as any one could
be and still retain a soark of vit&lit-r rr
week cr xaore I was scarcely able to swallow any
thing, and if I did force a morsel down, it was
1 could not even keen a class of w&tir n .

stances; ami, accordingly, the phvsloians who
hAd been working faithfully, thoug'b unsuccess

Archer, frankly told mo they could do no mors
for me, and advised me to sea a clerTm.. .
to make such disposition of my limited fund as
best suited me. An acnnaintan- .i

to try your Bitters, and kindly procured a bottle.
From the time I commenced taking them tbe
gloomy shadow of death receded, and I am now
thank God for it. eettine better. Though r h
two Dotties. t nave gamed ten pounds,
and I feel sanguine of being permitted to rejoin
ay wife and daughter, from whom I have heard
nothing for eighteen months: for. gentlemen, I -am
a loyal Virginian, from the vicinity of Front
Royal. To your invaluable Bitters I owo tho cer
tainty of life which baa taken place of vague fear
to your Bitters will 1 owe tho glorious privi
lege of again clasping to my bosom thos who are
dearest to me in life.
Very truly yours, Isaac Malonb.
