Through a mistaken policy you have b?cn
heretofore deprived ol a participation in the
glorious struggle for national rights in which
onr country a engaged. This no longer shall
exist.
As sons of freedom, yon are now called up
on to defend our most inestimable blessing.
As Americans, your country looks with confi
dence to her adopted children for a valor
ous support, as a faithful return for the ad
vantages enjoyed under her mild and equita
ble government. As fathers, husbands, and
brothers, you ore summoned to rally round
the standard of the eagle to defend all which
Is dear in existence.
Tour country, although calling for your ex
ertions, does not wish you to engage in her
cause without remunerating you for tho scrvi
Ces rendered. Your intelligent minds are
not to bo led away by false representations.
Your love of honor would cause you to de
spise tho man who should attemt to deceive
Jou. With tho sincerity of a soldier, and the
angoago of truth, I address you.
To every noble-hearted freemen of color
volunteering to serve during the present con
tent with Great Britain, and no lunger, there
will bo paid tho same bounty, In money and'
lands, now roccived by the whlto soldiers of
tho United States, namely, $121 in money,
and one hundred and sixty acres of land. The
non-cornmlsiloned officers and privates will
also bo entitled to tho samo monthly pny, dal
ly rations, and clothes, furnished to any
American soldier.
On enrolling' yourselves In companies, ma
jor general commanding will select oflicers for
your government from your whlto follow cltl
tens. Your non-commUnlouud oflicers will

Duo regard will bo paid to tho feelings of
freemen and soldiers, i on will not, iy being

stunned for a moment, but soon felt tho blood
flowing, and got up as mud as I could he, and
drew a bead on a rebel, and am sure 1 sent

another ball hit me in the hend, and took oil' a
small piece of the bono. The blood flowed
faster than ever, but 1 did not care fur that,
I got np as soon as I could and kept pouring
the missiles of death Into tho rebel ranks till
the battle was over, and then was bornu from
the field exhausted by the lns of blood, and
hf fatigue, 1 am now at No. 3, Hurrlsburg
liosplUl, am doing well, and am anxious for
