favorable for vegetation, sometimes rather
cool for corn, but passably good for oats and
grass. The prospect of fruit is still favorable.
Strawberries very plenty and of good quality.
Rasp and Blackberries appear fair for a plenti
ful crop. The Chesnut blossoms are begin
ning to make a good appearance. The Wheat
is of fair "growth, and generally looks well,
but from the middle to the last of the month
it has been attacked by insect in the form of a
bug or small fly, as in different states of de
velopment, which may be seen by the hundred
on the heads of the wheat at the cavities of
tho blossom of young pram ready to extract
the nutriment which should form tho berry or
plump grain; look out lor light wheat the
coming season. Pexn.

CORRESPONDENCE OF THE "JOURNAL."
Camp near Alexandria, July 7, 1862.
Friend Row : Not seeing anything in your
excellent paper, from our regiment for some
time, and as we have the prospect of a rest
for once ; therefore, permit mo through the
Journal, to acquaint our friends in Clearfield
ot our whereabouts and of ourpresentcondition.
V e are now encamped near Alexandria, and
we begin to feel ourselves Quite at home in
this pleasant valley. It is true, the 84th has
seen very hard times since it has been ic the
service, and many of its brave men have fallen
victims to disease and death. Hard fighting and
hard marching has had a terrible eflect upon
our ranks, t nena after friend has dropped
out, until our ranks have become so thinned,
that the authorities seeing this, prudently
said to us, "stop, and call noon your friends
to help you.
We have had to endure toil and hardships,
and many of our friends have met death yet
the old Flag is just as dear as ever, and we
are not willing to give up a sinsrle star in
fact, the more lighting we do, and the farther
south we get, the more deeply are wo con
vinced that the government must and tvill
maintain itself.
But friends of Clearfield, we have started in
advance of you, have for eight months shared
camp lite six or tnera were spent in active
service five times have we faced the enemy
in marching we have been second to none
as to honor, we perhaps, have had our share,
yet, all that has been done was done willingly
yea, life itself has been offered as a willing
sacrifice for the preservation of toe institu
tions purchased by the blood of our forefath
ers. Are you wining to snare our ions, our
hardships, and our honor? Are you willing
that the 84th shall maintain the glory it ha?
won. and gain still greater honors ? Then,
fly to oor relief! Embrace the opportunify
that will bo presented to you, (by the time
this reaches you) and give your names as mem
bers of the 84th regiment of Pennsylvania
volunteers. We appeal to you in the name of
the country that has given you birth and
protection that has always given law and jus
tice to all. Come, let us with willing and u-
nited hands put down this unholy rebellion.
Let me appeal, more particularly, to my
immediate neighbors and friends ; I mean the
citizens of Brady and adjoining townships. I
know your circumstances. I am already ac-
quaintcd with the excuses von will offer.
let, none of you can sacrifice more, than
main ol us Have already sacrificed. Our
homes, our wives and our little ones have
been left behind, and we have endured toils,
narusmps and privations of every kind, and I
was going to say the taunts of tho silly Se-
te&u oi tue community. These things, it is
true, are unpleasant to us at present, but we
look forward to a day of glorious recompense
v e expect to see the two companies from
oicarneld county speedily filled up by her
noble sons by those who have been waiting
for an opportunity to enter the service of their
country and distinguish themselves as men of
courage and patriotism. Company K would
nive to nave its ranks oiled immediately, with
pooa souua men, sucn as Clearfield county
can produce, and especially the western part
wuere mere are comparatively few left.
ijet no motive induce you to stay back.
ijay asiae every argument that may be used
to prevent your coming to our relief. Look
down with contempt upon anv one that would
induce you to stay back, (unless it bo a loving
ne, ana say to tier my country needs me.)
and come and you will be welcomed by true
iieans ana willing Hands. The 81th needs
but a few of the true men of Clearfleld county
to make it one of the best regiments in tho
service. Wo have lost one of the bravest of
Colonels, yet, we cherish his memory. Col.
o. JU. Bowman has been appointed in his
place; and, so far as I am acquainted with
Col. Bowman, I believe him to be an efficient
officer, and a gentleman in every sense of the
word.
Lut, why waste words and time. Young
men ot Clearfield county, wo have given von
the facts. Many of your associates have fallen
bravely before the enemy, and many others
have been taken prisoners. Come, let us re
deem them. Yours, &c, W. K. A.
Tha P.ebel Army in the Southwest
Coiunth, July 5. From a former cniyloyec
of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, who iias ar
rived here, via Tupello, we learn that two gun
boats and one ram are in Mobile bay. There
aro 10.0U0 troops stationed below Mobile.
Tho fortifications around that city, which
were commenced a month ago, are completed,
and mo inhabitants are sanguine, believing
that Mobile cannot be taken. He savs that
Gen. Bragg is in command at Tupello with 43,
000 men. Breckinridge had leU there with
30.0C0 men. All tho troops were short of clo
thing and provisions. 1 hey have bacon twice
a week, but no coflee nor salt. Tb3 rebels
say they camo to take Corinth, and the rebel
impressions generally are that a majority of
our troops have gone East. It is the unani
mous testimony of scouts and deserters tfiat
no rebel troops, except cavalry, have gone East.

x juj. i n;i?tAi.-jiiiL,i,A. is a con-
XSL centratcd. xtract of Pa: a Sarsaparilla, so
combined with other substance: of still greater
alternative power as to afford an effective antidote
for dis ases barsaparilla is reputed to cure. Such
a remedy is surely wa.ted by those who suffer
from Strumous complaints, and that one which
will accomplish their cure must prove of immense
sendee to this large class of our all io ted fcllow-
citizens. liow completely this compound wilt do
it has been proven by experiment on many of the
worst cases to bo found in the following com
plaints :
Scrofula and Scrofula complaints, Eruptions and
Eruptive diseases, Ulcers, Pimples, Blotches. Tu
mors, Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Syphilis and Sy
philitic affections, Mercurial diseases. Dropsy,
Neuralgia or lie Doloreux, Debility, Byspepsia
and Indigestion. Erysipelas, Rose or S"t. Anthony's
.Fire, and indeed the whole class of complaints
arising from impurity of the blood
This compound will bo tounc 4 great promoter
of health, when taken in the spr ng, to expel the
foul humors which fester in the blood at thatsca
son of the year. By tho timely expulsion of them
many rankling disorders are nipped in the bud.
jyultitudes can, by the aid of this remedy, spare
themselves from the endurance of foul eruptions
and ulcerous sores, through which the system
will strive to rid itself of corruptions, if not assist
ed to do this through the natural channels of the
body by an al ternati vc med icine. Cleausc out the
vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities
bursting through the skin i pimples, eruptions,
or sores; clcanso it when you find it is obstructed
and sluggish in tho veins ; dense it whenever it
is foul, and your feelings will tell you when.
Even where no particular disorder is felt, people
enjoy better health, and live longer. for clernsing
the blood. Keep the blood healthy, and all is
well ; but with tho pubulum of life disordered,
there can be no lasting health. Sooner or later
something must go wrong, and the great machin
ery of life is disordered or overthrown.
During late years, tho public havo been misled
by largo bottles, pretending to eive a quart of
Extract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most of
these have been Irauda upon tho sick, for they
net only contain little, if any sarsaparilla, but
painful disappointment has followed the uso of
the various extracts ot frarsaparilla which Hood
the market, until the name itself is justly despised
and ha3 become synonomius with imposition and
cheat. Still wo call this compound Sarsaparilla,
and intend to supply such a remody as shall res
cue the name from the load of obliquy which
rests upon it. And we think we have ground for
believing it has virtues which are irresistible by
the ordinary run of the diseases it is intended to
cure.
