A rery cnriona pleasure boat, built for the French Emperor, now lies at Asniers com plete imitation of the triremes of the Eoman period. It is about 80 feet long.-with three ranges of oars, one above the other ; its high prow and stern give it a very picturesque ap pearance. . Cottojt Mcst Come. The Southern Con federacy has prohibited the export of cotton by Northern routes. This must be pleasant for Union planters, but it does and will come. A few days ago a cargo arrived at New York. The rebel flag is painted at tbe head of the manifest, and the captain pays his fine of a hundred dollars but cotton comes and will come as long aa we want it. The price of fire-arms in England has great ly advanced in consequence of the demand from the United States. The Enfield rifles, which cost formerly fourteen dollars, now sell for twenty-one dollars. As the old muskets rifled, which any of our machine shops would aoon effect, are said to be equal to tho Enfield rifle, we do not see why we should pay such an enormous price abroad for arms which can be so easily supplied at home. A circumstance recently occurred showing the greit business utility of the modern discover ies of photography and tbe electric telegraph. The Count de Penafiel left Lisbon for Paris, carrying with him an order for 70,000 frans. This, however, he unfortunately lost on the Toad, and telegraphed the same to his banker at Lisbon. That gentleman at once telegraph ed to Paris, stopping payment of the order, but sent by post the portrait of the Count de Fenafield, stating that the amount might be paid to him when he presented himself. All KionT. A good story is told, and it is Ime. of a Yireinian emierant who stopped at Willard's a few days ago. There was consid ahla doubt in the minds of many whether the man was really what be represented himself to be, or a spy. lie told several persons who ware atandine round him that he was so well known in Virginia as a Union man that $500 n now offered for his head. "Why don't yon go back and claim tbe reward ?" asked a wc who was resent. "I would." was the reply, "If I wasn't alraid they would pay me in Confederate bonds." It was unanimously agreed after this reply that the man's loyalty was above suspicion. The proprietors and HOS1 It I Manufacturers of Hostetter's Celebrated Stomach Bitters can appeal with perfect confidence to phy sicians and citizens generally of tbe United States, because the article has attained a reputation here tofore unknown. A few facts upon this point will sneak more powerfully than volumes of bare asser tion or blazoninir puffery. The consumption of Uostetter's Stomach Bitters for the last year a mounted to over a half-million bottles, and from its manifest steady increase in times past, it is ev ident that duriDfj the coming year tae consump tion will reach near one million bottles. This im menso amount could never bave been sold but f or the rare medicinal properties contained in the pre paration, and the sanction of the most prominent physicians in those sections of the country where the article is best known, who not only recommend the Bitters to their patients, but are ready at all times to give testimonials to its efficacy in all ca sesof stomachic derangements and the diseases re suiting therefrom. This is not a temporary popu larity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in the way of trumpeting tbe qualities ot tbe liitters, nut a solid estimation of an invaluable medicine, which is destined to be as enduring as time itself .Hostetter's Stomach Bitters have proved a God send to regions where fever and ague and various other bilious complaints have counted their vic tims by hundreds. - To be able to state confident ly that the 'Bitters' are a certain cure for the Dys pepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all mor bid matter from tbe stomach, purifies the blood, and imparts renewed vitality to the nervous sys tem, giving it that tone and energy indispensable for the restoration oi health, it operates upon tbe stomach, liver, and other digestive organs, mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them to a condition essential to the healthy discharge of tbe functions of nature. Elderly persons may use the Bitters daily as per directions on the bottle, and they will find it a etimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort declining years, as it is pleasant to the palate, invigorating to the bowels, excellent as a tonic, and rejuvena ting generally. We have evidence of thousands of aged men and women who have experienced the benefit of using this preparation while suffer intr from stomach derangements and general de bility: acting under the advice of physicians. they have abandoned all deleterious drugs and fairly tested tbe merits of this article.' A few words to the gentler sex. There are certain pe riods when their cares are so harrassing that many of them sink under the trial. Nursing mothers generally preler the Bit ters to all other invigorators that receive the en dorsement of physicians, because it is agreeable to the taste as well as certain to give a permanent inorease of bodily strength. All those persons, to whom we have particular ly referred above, to wit : sufferers from fever and ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea, dysentery, in digestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or de rangements of the stomach, superanuated inval ids, persons of sedentary occupation, and nursing mothers, will consult their own physical welfare by giving to llostetter s Celebrated btomaoh Bit ters a trial ' CautunrVia caution the public against using any of the many imitations or counterfeits, but ask for Hostetter's Celebrated Stomach Bitters, and see that each bottle has the words "Dr. J.
