Ilorace Bishop, one of the patriots of the
Revolution, died in Michigan last week, in the
100th year of his age. He served four years
in the Revolutionary war, and was one of the
guard who stood sentry over Major Andre at
the time of his execution.
Mr. Wendell received one hundred and thirty
thousand dollars from the Treasury depart
ment for the purchase of his printing bureau,
which is now under the entire control of the
Government, and will be operated on a new
and more economical system.
Bad for Cleveland Whiskt. In a liquor
nit recently tried in a western county of Penn
sylvania, the defendant's attorney urged that
a consignment of whisky had been made to bis
client from Cleveland, for sale. The judge, in
delivering the charge of the court, remarked
that "it was notorious that Cleveland whisky
a had whisfev. and to deal in that kind of an
.r;oin innM not command the clemency of
the court."
A Pro Joke. We had a hearty laugh the o

was attempting to put a yoke en a pig. He
had cornered the grunter in a room having a
glazed window, when tho animal, believing
thev were Drenarinjr to infringe upon its full
freedom, went with a single bound through
the window. "Drat it," said the old man,
lookine after him a moment, "I've got your
dimensions anyhow seven by nine exactly !

FOR THE WHISKERS AND HAIR.
The subscribers take pleasure in announcing to
the citizens of the United States, that they have
obtained the Agency for, and are now enabled
to offer to the American public, the above justly
celebrated and world renowned article.
THE STIMULATING ONGUENT is prepared
by Dr. C. P. Bellingham, an eminent physioian of
London, and is warranted to bring out a thick set of
Whiskers or a Mustache, in from 3 to 6 weeks.
This article is the only one of the kind used by
the French, and in London and Paris it is in uni
versal use. It is a beautiful, economical, sooth
ing, yet stimulating compound, acting as if by
magio upon the roots, causing a beautiful growth
of luxuriant hair. If applied to the scalp, it will
cure BALD5E8S, and cause to spring up in place of
the bald spots a fine growth of new hair. Applied
according to directions, it will turn red or towy
hair dark, and restore gray bair to its original
eolor, leaving it soft, smooth, and flexible. The
'Onguent" is an indispensable article in every
' gentleman's toilet, and after one week's use they
would not for any consideration be without it.
The subsoribers are the only Agents for the ar

must be addressed. Price One Dollar a box for

OSTETTER'S STOMACH
BITTER S. The proprietors and
Manufacturers of Hostetter' s Celebrated Stomach
Bitters can appeal with perfect confidence to phy
sicians and citizens generally ot tne United Mates
because the article has attained a reputation here
tofore unknown. A few facts upon this point will
speak more powerfully than volumes of bare asser
tion or blazoning puffery. The consumption of
Hostetter's Stomach Bitters for the last year a-
mounted to over a half-mil lion bottles, and from
its manifest steady increase in times past, it is ev
ident that during the coming year the consump
tion will reach near one million bottles. This im
mense amount could never have been sold but for
the rare medicinal properties contained in the pre
paration. and the sanction of the most prominen
physicians in those sections of the country where
the article is best known, who not. only recommend
the Bitters to their patients, but are ready at all
times to give testimonials to its emcacy in all ca
ses of stomach ic derangements and tne diseases re
suiting therefrom. This is not a temporary popu
larity, obtained by extraordinary efforts in the way
of trumpeting the qualities ot tne uiuors, but a
solid estimation of an invaluable medicine, which
is destined to be as enduring as time itself
Hostetter's Stomach Bitters have proved a God
send to regions where fever and ague and various
other bilious complaints nave counted their vie
tims by hundreds. To be able to state confident
ly that the 'Bitters' are a certain cure for the Dys
pepsia and like diseases, is to the proprietors a
source of unalloyed pleasure. It removes all mor
bid matter fronAhe stomach, purifies the blood
and imparts renewed vitality to the nervous sys
tern, giving it that tone acd energy indispensable
for tne restoration oi neaun. jtt operates upon
the stomach, liver, and other digestive organs.
mildly but powerfully, and soon restores them
to a condition essential to the healthy discharge
of the functions ot nature.
Elderly persons may use the Bitters daily as per
directions on the bottle, and they will find it a
stimulant peculiarly adapted to comfort declining
years, as it is pleasant to tne palate, invigorating
to the bowels, excellent as a tonic, and reiuvena
ting generally. We have evidence of thousands
of aged men and women who have experienced
the benefit of using this preparation while suffer
ing from stomach derangements and general de
bility; acting under the advice of physicians.
they have abandoned all deleterious drugs and
fairly tested the merits of this article. A few
words to the gentler sex. There are certain pe
riods when their cares are soharrassing that many
of them sink under the trial. The relation of mo
ther and child is so absorbingly tender, that the
mother, especially if she be young, is apt to for
get her own health in the extreme anxiety for her
infant, should the period for maternity arrive
during the summer season, the wear of body and
mind is generally aggravated. Here, men, is a
necessity for a stimulant to recuperate the ener
gies of the system, and enable the mother to beaj
up under her exhausting trials and responstbili
ties. Nursing mothers generally prefer the Bit
ters to all other invigorators that receive the en
dorsement of physicians, because-it is agreeable
to the taste as well as certain to give a permanent
increase of bodily strength.
All those persons, to whom we have particular
ly referred above, to wit : sufferers from fever and
ague, caused by malaria, diarrhoea, dysentery, in
digestion, loss of appetite, and all diseases or de
rangementsof the stomach, superanuated inval
ids, persons of sedentary occupation, and nursing
mothers, will consult their own physical welfare
by giving to Hostetter 's Celebrated btomach Bit
ters a trial.
Caution. We caution the publio against using
any of the many imitations or oounterteits, but ask
for Hostetter's Celebrated Stomach Bitters, and see
that each bottle has the words "Dr. J. Hostetter
Stomach Bitters" blown on the side of the bottle
and stamped on the metallio cap covering the cork
and observe thatour autozraph signature is on th
label, ry Prepared and sold by Hostetter & Smith
