Tbt Commtrial Bulletin states that the Bos
ton mechanics connected with shipbuilding
never had snch an abundance of work as du

A bachelor editor, sensative in relation to
his rights, objects to taking a wife through
fear that if she should have a baby, his cotem
poraries who habitually copy 'without credit,
would ret use fo give him credit for the baby.
Floydj as Secretary of War, had a salary of
eight thousand dollars per annum. He was
poor when he entered office. He held the
place about three years and six months.
From his savings, he shipped by Adams' Ex
press to his home in Virginia, one hundred
and twenty thousand dollars. This is an ex
traordinary example of thrift and economy.
On the recent trial of Abson for the murder
of his wife in new Jersey Dr. Doremus, who
analyzed the contents, of the murdered wo
man's stomach, in the course of his testimony,
exhibited to the court the bodies of two frogs,
one of which had been killed by dropping
strichnine upon it and the other by dropping
upon it some of the matter taken from the wo
man's stomach. Both exhibited the same pe
culiar, rigid appearance, which is the charac
teristic ellect of strychnine poison.
The -Wilmington Journal, published in a
Slave State (Delaware) is an ultra Republican
paper, i It says : "It appears the new South
ern Confederacy is troubled about a proper
name for the Empire ; some of the States sug
gesting one thing and some another. We ad
mit that, inasmuch as we do not belong to the
rebel side of the question, we have no particu
lar business to meddle with their "domestic
affairs but still we respectfully suggest, in
view of the fact that there are as many "nig
gers" in the new confederacy as white people,
that it be called flew Hayti."

fice of James Wrigley, Register and Recorder at
Clearfield. The books are of various sizes and a-

and testaments as low as 6i cents apieco.

Commonwealth of Pcnn-lvania, having exnmin-
cd the accounts of G. 15. Goodlander, Esq , Treas
urer of the County of Clearfield, for the year A.
D. 1860, do certify that we find the accounts of
Geo. B. Goodlander, as follows: The amount due
from all sources to be Seven thousand Eight hun
dred and Eighty-eight dollars and Ten cents,
(7888,10). We also find the amount of outstand
ing orders to be Ten thousand Seven hundred
and Thirty-two dollars and Seventy-eight cents.
("510732.78), of which Nine thousand Five hundred
dollars are on Court Ilouso contract. The balance
due the Treasurer, Three hundred and Seventy
two dollars and Four cents, ($372.01). Witness
