Foreign Irox. A correspondent of the St.
Louis Evening News directs the attention of
the citizens to the very bad quality of foreign
Iron which has been imported for the railroads
of the Groat West. He asserts that it is mere
rubbish, and that far superior rails can be man
ufactured in St. Louis for $00 per tun. '
Neglected hk& Bible. A Bible was recent
ly sold at auction in France, which had been
presented by a nobleman to a deceased actress.
The purchaser turned over the leaves, and
found scattered hero and there bank bills a
mounting to about $3,000, which tho actress
had never discovered. Her heirs have com
menced a suit to recover tho money.
Out West several people are inconsolable
because the elegant and refined Joseph Lane
is not to bo our next Vice-President. They
say that his defeat is a death-blow to Ameri
can literature, and will causa a complete stag
nation in that branch of the book-trado devo
ted to Webster's Spellers. It is rumored that
his friends in Oregon were affected to tears
by the following dispatch :
