' The Catholic church in Knox township, Cla
rion county, Fa., was destroyed by fire on Fri
day the Sd of February. .
1 The average number of letters delivered in
New York city, per quarter, during 1859, was
2,400,000 during the year, 9,600,000.
The number of Indians within the limits of
the United States ai-d Territories is set down
by the Secretary of the Interior at 350,000.
"Am I not a little pale V Inquired a lady
who was short and corpulent, ot a crusty old
bachelor. "You loot more like a big tub,"
was the blunt reply. . '
The Zanesville, Ohio, people chargo the
Sons of Malta with spiriting away one Curtis,
an apostate member, who wrote an exposition
of the Order. Quite an excitement prevails.
The shipments of coal from different coal re
gions in Fennsylvania,. except the western
part of the State, amounted last year to 7,
804,000 tons. Addingabout four millions of
tons more for the western part of the State,
and the value of the entire supply will not bo
short of thirty-five millions of dollars.
An aristocratic young lady visiled a fashion
able store, in Wheeling, and after examining
the contents of the establishment to her en
tiro satisfaction, invested - one entire dime in
cotton thread, and requested it to be sent to
her house, about a mile distant, which was ac
ceded to thus : It wa3 sent in an express wag
on, which was duly backed up to the door, the
tail board lowered, and all the motions inci
dent to express business gone through with,
including the collection of fifteen cents, the
usual express charge. Of course the young la
dy was utterly astonished and highly indignant.
A Fat Couple. Mr. and Mrs. Annin, resi
ding near the Uigh Bridge of the N. J. Cen
tral Railroad, are supposed to bo the largest
couple in the country. The gentleman's weight
is 700 pounds and the lady's weight 500. Mr.
Annin's age is about 45, and Mrs. Annin's a
bout 40. It requires six yards of cassimere for
Mr. A.'s pants and nine yards of cloth lor a
coat. He and bis wife keep a public house at
a place called Peg's Pebble. It is said that
Burn urn of the New York Museum, offered the
couple $1500 per year and their expenses if
they would come to New York, but they refu
sed, telling him they did not wish to be look
ed "at so much. They began to increasa in
ize about seventeen years ago.
