A raccoon entered a church in Princeton,
Illinois, recently, during service, and created

eration in Eric, and it is estimated that there

age drunk in that city each week.
The Milwaukie News says the best protec
tion lrom mosquitoes will be obtained by

better and sweeter.
Michael McCarthy, of the Kerry militia,
was generally late on parade. "Ah, Michael,"
said the sergeant, "yon are always last." "Be
aisy, Sergeant Sullivan," was his reply, "sure

James Sutherland has been fined 20 in New
York, lor kissing Maria Bohman, a married
woman, against her will. James will probably
feel the necessity ol keeping his hands out of
other people's sweetmeats.
"Are those pure canaries,"- asked a gentle
roan of a bird dealer, with whom he was nego
tiating for a "gift for his fair." "Yes, sir,"
said the dealer, confidentially, "I raised them
ere birds mvself from canarv seed."
It is stated that Vice President Brecken
ridge will be elected United States Senator
from Kentucky, and that the delegation to
Charleston will be instructed to go for Hon.
James Guthrie, as the candidate of Kentucky
for the Presidency.
"Sammy, you little whelp, didn't I tell you
to let that cat's tail alone ?" said an angry
father to his son,who was endeavoring to elon
gate a cat's narrative. "Well, old cock, what

the great excitement about the removal of the
