ton, Kentucky, is nearly completed. It is said
to be one of the handsomest works of art in

The will of Joseph Miner, deceased, leaving
a property of $80,000, to three sons, and cut
ting off four other children with from $5 to
$100 each, has been set aside in the Fayette
Circuit Court, Indiana.
A St. Louis paper mentions a suicide in that
city from a rather singular cause. A young
Frenchman named Donnedien was insane. He
thought his stomach was full of devils an ag
gravated case of dyspepsia and despairing of
relief, he cot bis throat and shot himself.
Rats are becoming an unendurable pest to
farmers in Illinois. In Saline county the
corn crop has suffered seriously from their dep
redations. In other counties they are equally
numerous, entering the cornflelds in swarms,
and threatening them with entire destruction
About a week since, a fair young girl of 10
arrived in Cleveland, put up at .hotel, "rig
ged out" in expensive harness, and attracted
much attention. She told the landlord she
expected her uncle, and on Saturday he arriv
ed. lie was not an active gentleman and 60
vears old at least. In the afternoon there ar
rived at the hotel an uncouth old man in bag
gy trousers, with a slight Yorkshire accent
This old man angrily confronted the other old
man, and charged him with running away with
his daughter. There was a scene of recrimi
nation, when the father charged the "lovyer"
with being married and the father of eight
children. Finally, the father and the old run
away had a private conversation, at the close
of which the father returned home, and the
yonng girl and her pretended uncle left to
gether.
