Raftsman's Journal.
New wlieat Las been selling at Muscatine,
Iowa, at sixty cents per bushel.
A New York correspondent says ten mil
lions of hooped skirts are manufactured in that
city per year.
Tho celebrated leaning tower of Pisa is 315
feet high, and has an inclination from the per
pendicular of 12 feet.
. Forty-five foreigners took out naturalization
papers at the late term of the Cambria county
court. All Democrats, as a matter of course.
The widest span yet made in a timber bf idge
is believed to be that of the Schuylkill bridge,
at Philadelphia, the clear opening of which is
310 feet. '

nesday at 51.50 per annum in advance. If not
paid at the beginning of the year, S2:00 will be
chanted.
Advertisements -will be inserted at 51,00 per
square of 12 lines for three or less insertions. For
every additional insertion 25 cents will be charg
ed. A deduction mil be made to yearly adver
tiser?.
No subscription taken for a shorter time than
fix months, and no paper will be discontinued un

the petition of George Hess was read setting forth
inter alia that his father, Abraham Hess, late of
Boggs township, in Clearfield county, died on the
24th day of MayA. D.. 1853 ; that during the life
time of said Abraham Hess, he agreed (by parol)
to convey to said petitioner a certain tract of land
in Boggs township containing one hundred acres,
ana Dounaca Dy lands ot Alexander Stone, Isaac
Hess and other lands of Abraham Hess; that the
full consideration money hath been paid ; that the
said Abraham Hess hath made no suitable provi
sion for the execution of a deed and the comple
tion or execution of said contract. Thereupon
praying the Court to fix on some day certain to
bear the parties, Ac. Whereupon the said Court,
on the 19th day ot January, A. D., 1859, awarded
a citation specifying notice in accordance with the
