Good manners is the art of making those a
round ns easy. Whoever makes the fewest"
persons uneasy is the best bred man In the
company.
"Last words' of men are always rather sus
picions; as in the case of Mr. Pitt, whose last
words were popularly said to be, "Alas ray
country !" Bat the nurse said that he asked
for "more gruel."
The Cleveland Democrat gives an account of
an insane woman, who hung herself, bnt was
cut down before life was extinct. She was
bled copiously, and when she recovered her
consciousness, her reason returned. Couldn't
the experiment be profitably tried by others ?
Flour has declined in New York and ad
vanced in Chicago. The Journal of Commerce
states that there a million of barrels of flour
in store in New York. The present struggle
abont the prices keeps the breadstuff's trade
dull, and the export trade is next to nothing

nesday at SI, 50 per annum in advance. If not
paid at the beginning of the year, $2,00 will be
charged.
Advertisements will be inserted at 51 :00 per
square of 12 lines for three or less insertions. For
every additional insertion 25 cents will be charg
ed. A deduction will be made to yearly adver
tisers. No subscription taken for a shorter time than
six months, and no naoer will be discontinued un
til all arrearages are paid, except at the option of

the friends to pay their subscritions without delay.

Common Pleas, held at Clearfield in and for said
county on the 19th day of January, A. D., 1859,
the petition of George Hess was read setting forth
inter alia that his father, Abraham Hess, late of
Boggs township, in Clearfield county, died on the
24th day of May, A. D., 1858 ; that during the life
time of said Abraham Hess, he agreed (by parol)
to convey to said petitioner a certain tract of land
in Boggs township containing one hundred acres,
and bounded by lands of Alexander Stone, Isaac
Hess and other lands of Abraham Hess; that the
full consideration money hath been paid ; that the
aid Abraham Hess hath made no suitable provi
sion for the execution of a deed and the comple
tion or execution of said contract. Thereupon
Praying the Court to fix on some day certain to
hear tne parties, Ac. W hereupon the said Court,
on the 19th day of January, A. D., 1859. awarded
a citation specifying notice in accordance with the

1859, on return 0f said citation, the Court on mo

estate of William Moyer, deceased.
No. 1. A certain piece of land situated in Gra
ham township, Clearfield county, beginning at a
White Oak corner, thence South by tho John Don
aldson survey 1571 perches to corner of the Win.
Shippey purchase. thence by same westllll perches
to a Post, thence East by George Harrison survey

109 acres, more or less, and being tho North East

movals always cause excitement, and sines
the great excitement about the removal of the
Court House has subsided, the community gener

that Charly Watson has determined to pull up
stakes and remove to Virginia. But the latest
