to a dame that if she would make a riddle that
he could not interpret, he would give her
quart oi liquor. (Be it remembered that it
was more fashionable in old times to 'take
something' than at the present day.) The old
lady took down her Bible, summoned her
muse, and thus she sang. The liquor was for
feited. A correspondent copied the lines from
her own hand writing, suggesting that it might
amuse some of our readers, but wouldn't agree
to bring in the spirits if they happenjto jjiiess
the riddle." We must depend upon our read
ers for the answer.
