A sharp urchin derided the dignity of the
sun, because he is on'.y a day-laborer.
An exchange, in speaking of the treatment
a police officer received lrom a drunken wo
man, says, she kicked and cuffed him around
as if be had been her husband.
"IIow does this razor cut 7" asked a barber
of one of his customers, whom ho was shaving.
"Fretty well, I should think," was the reply,
"yon have cut me in two places already."
According to correct estimates the amount
of our existing interest-bearing obligations
to Europe is about five hundred ' millions of
dollars. These figures include railroad,State,
municipal, and Federal securities.
A man from the country, whose wife had c
loped and carried off the feather bed, was in
search of them, not that he cared tny thing a
bout the wife, "but the feathers," said he,
"them's worth forty-eight cents a pound."
A 'German savant has taken the pains to
count tho number of hairs existing in four
heads of hair, of different colors. lie found
in a blond 140,409 distinct hairs, in a brown
100,410, in a black 102,960, and in a red 88,740.
An Irishman, going' to be hanged, begged
that the rope might be tied under his arms in
stead of around bis throat. "For," said Fat,
I am so remarkably ticklish in the throat,
that if tied there I shall certainly kill myself
with laughter."

Judge Jtihnson, t Louisville, Kentucky, a
few weeks since, in deciding a case before
liim, sil: A man has uo right to whip his
wife, but should be severely punished if lie
were guilty of such an outrage ; the women,
on the contrary, had the right to whip their
husbands whenever they pleased. J ndge John
son is doubtless a favorite with the women
since he made this decision.
A singular occurrence, says the Albany
Knickerbocker, of the 27th, was discovered
in a vault attached to one of our burial
grounds on Sunday last. It was that of a fe
male;' who was deposited therein for dead
some two months since, being found, on open
ing the coflin, to be lying on her side w ith one
hand under the head. From this it was evi
dent that the woman was alive when placed
there, and awaking from the trance into which
alichad fallen, endeavored to extricate herself
from her entombment.
