THE JOURNAL.
CLEARFIELD, FA., HAY 18, 1859.
By a note Irom the Mercantile Appraiser,
wo art) glad to learn that it was no neglect of
his that a copy of the List of Retailers was not
furnished ns for publication. Several names
are added to, and some corrections made in
the list this week.
J on Patton has received at his store-room
in Curwensville, an immense stock of Season
able Goods, which he is ready to sell on the
most advantageous terms to his customers and
the pnblic at large. His advertisement ap
pears in another column.
Cut his Leo. Richard Shirk, son of Mr.
Mordecai Shirk of this place, on last Thurs
day, whilst chopping with an axe in the woods,
a couple miles cast of town, cut a large gash
into his leg. lie was immediately brought
Lome and the wound dressed.
A friend of ouis, who has just returned from
a trip through several of the eastern counties
of this State, says that in none of them arc
the crops more advanced or present a more
promising appearance than in our own. This
speaks well Tor farming in Clearfield. .
Cocrt. Court is in session hero this week,
but in accordance with the new arrangement
in regard to tlio time of holding our Courts,
no jurors were summoned, and hence no cau
ses have been tried. The road matters will
be given in our nest paper. The tavern licon
es acted on, appear in another column.
Tire. We regret to learn that on last Mon
day, during the absence of Mr. Lawrence
Flood from home, his tavern house on Sandy,
in Covington township, was destroyed by fire.
He had just procured new furniture, bedding,
&c, and laid in a large stock of provisions,
all of which were consumed. His loss will be
from $1,500 to 2,000.
Jon.v Ievis, of Curwensville, is receiving
and opening a well-selected stock of Spring
and Summer Goods, to which he iuvitcs the
attention of the pullic. His stock is large
nd adapted to the wants of the community,
and lie offers his goods at the most reasonable
prices. His advert isetnent will be found in
another column of our paper.
Captcred. On last Sunday, Mr. George
Guelich, residing about two miles south-west
of this borough, captured a large deer alive.
He saw the deer in one of bis fields, and set
his dog upon it. This did not seem to dis
turb it much, or to hasten its flight, and so
the dog had little trouble in seizing it by the
flank, and succeeded in holding it until Mr.
Uuelich canio up and secured it, after which
he confined it in his barn, whero it is yet.
N"ew Township. A new township has been
formed out of parts of Woodward and Eec
caria. The order "of the Court relative to the
same is in the following words :
"May 17. 18.j9. Confirmed absolutely, now
township e-ectcd, and named Gl'klicu, in
honor of G. Phillip Guelich, one of the old
est citizens of the count the great a post la
nf temperance the main support of the Bible
Society the honest, upright and conscienti
ous man."
TiikGesesee Farmer. The May number
of this iopubr 3gricnltnr.il and horticultural
journal is received. It is unnecessary to
commend the Farmer. It has been published
for twenty-eight shears in the heart of the
'Genesee country," and its friends are legion.
The publisher offer to take subscriptions for
the coming .six months (July to December)
for 23 cents. A specimen of the paper can
be seen at this ofTIce, and we shall le happy
to receive and forward subscriptions. Speci
men copies are sent free to applicants. Sec
-advertisement in another column.
Relics. A few days ago, after Mr. William
I5rown had removed an old fence on the farm
of G. L. Reed, Esq., adjoining Clearfield Bor
ough to the south, one of his sons scraped up
with a hoc, from between two stumps, a large
num"ber of ounce musket balls, and in a few
minutes picked up -i lbs. of the same. Sev
eral other persons gathered larger or smaller
quantities until near 50 lbs. of these bul'ets
Lave been collected. When, and by whom
tht- were placed there, must remain a matter
of conjecture. As the spot where they were
found is on, or close to the main trail from
the East to Erie, and as it was out of the line
of march of any of the white troops, the most
reasonable supposition is, that they were sto
len by ths Indians in one of their forays, and
deposited there for safety..
Political Meetixo. In pursuance of pre
vious notice, a meeting of the People's Party,
to select Delegates to the State Connention
which meets at Harrisbnrg on the 8th June,

t YER'S SARSAPAKILLA, a compound
il remedy, in which we have labored to produco
the most effectual alterative that can be made. It
13 a concentrated extract of 1'ara Sarsaparilla, so
combined with other eubstanccs of still greater al
terative power as to afford an effective antidote for
the diseases Sarsaparilla is reputed to cure. It is
believed that such a remedy is wanted by those
who suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one
which will accomplish their cure must prove of
immense scrvico to this large class of our afflicted
fellow citizens. How completely thiscompound will
do it has been proven by experiment on many of tho
worst cases to be found of tho folio wingcomplaints:
Scrofula and Scrofulous complaints, Eruptions
and Eruptivo Diseases, Ulcers, Pimples, Blotches,
Tumors. Salt Rheum, Scald Head, Syphilis and
Syphilitic affections, Mercurial Disease, Dropsy,
Neuralgia or Tic Douloureux, Debility, Dyspopsia
and Indigestion. Erysipelas, Rose or St. Antho
ny's Fire, and indeed the whole class of com
plaints arising from Impurity of the Blood.
Thiscompound will be found a great promoter
of health, when taken in the spring, to expel the
foul humors which foster in the blood at that sea
son of tho year. By the timely expulsion of them
many rankling disorders are nipped in the bud
Multitudes can, by the aid of this remedy, sparo
themselves from the endurance of foul eruptions
and ulcerous sores, through which the system will
strive to rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to
do this through tho natural channels of the body
by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the vitia
ted blood whenever you find its impurities burst
ing through the skin in pimples, eruptions, or sores;
cleanse it when -ou find it is obstructed and slug
gish in tho veins; cleanse it whenever it is foul.
and yourfeelings will tell you when. Even where
no particular disorder is felt, pcoplo enjoy better
health, and live longer, tor cleansing the blood.
Keep tho body healthy, and all is well ; but with
this pabulum of life disordered, there can be
no lasting health. Sooner or later something
must go wrong, and the great machinery of
lite is disordered or altogether overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has. and deserves .much, tho repu
tation, of accomplishing these ends. But the
world has been cgregiously deceived by prepara
tions of it, partly because the drug alone has
not all the virtue that is claimed for it. but moro
because many preparations, pretending to be
conccntrrted extracts of it, contain but littlo of
tho virtue of Sarsaparilla. or any thing else.
During lato years the publi3 have been misled
by largo bottles, pretending to give a quart of Ex
tract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most of these
have been frauds upon the sick, for they not only
contain little, if any, Sarsaparilla. but often no cu
rative properties whatever. Jlenco.bitterand pain
ful disappointment has followed the use of the va
rious extracts of Sarsaparilla which flood the mar
ket, until the name itself is justly despised, and
has become synonymous with imposition and cheat.
Still we call this compound Sarsaparilla. and
intend to supply such a remedy as shall rescue
the namo from the load of obloquy which rests
upon it. And we think Vc have good ground for
believing it has virtues which are irrcsistable by
tho ordinary run of tho diseases it is intended to
cure. In order to secure their complete eradica
tion from the system, tho remedy should be judi
ciously taken according to directions on the bottle.
