We understand that the Metho disti are having quite a revival of religion in ioshen township at the present time, and that many persons are being converted. - Am Improvkmkjct. We are pleased to learc that onr triend Cel. A. B. Shaw has been mak ing quite an improvement at ShawsviHe. by erecting a fine store-house, where he is pre pared to supply his old customers, and as many new ones as possible, with goods at the lowest rates. The Col. being a clever fellow, cannot fail to do a large and profitable business. We have. been informed that a malignant disease is at the present time prevailing in and abont Luthcrsburg in this county, which baffles the skill of physicians. Three children have recently died, and some ten others are still sick, and it is feared that the attack may prove fatal to a portion of them, at least. The disease, with few exceptions, is confined to children. Re iDi.se bt Ca.nplelight. Place the can dle behind you, that the rays may pass over ,3'onr shoulder on to the book. This will re lieve the eyes. Looking into a fire (particu larly a coal one) is very injurious to the eyes. Tho stimulus of light and heat united, soon destroys the eyes. Thoso who wish to pre serve their sight, should preserve their gener al health by correct habits, and give their eyes just work enough, with a due degree of light. Fixgeh err orr and healed os AOAix.-Sornc three or four weeks ago, Mr. G. W. McCully, of Bcccaria township, cut one of his fingers .ff with an axe, and after going to the house lie returned to tho woodyard, where the accident happened, picked np the part of the finger which had been cut off, and alter cleaning oft" the dirt which adhered to it, replaced it on che finger and bound it on. It is now healing rapidly, the cut off portion having united Orm Jy, and will be almost as useful as if nothing had occurred to it. This fact might be worth remembering, by persons who may have the misfortune to meet with a similar accident. CLIPPINGS AN" f CBIBBLINGS. e PROTEST. The following protest, against the letting of the contract for a new Court House on the 29th January, 1S39, lias been presented to the Com missioners of Clearfield County. All the sig natures, most of which we are obliged to omit, were procured on Saturday and Monday. We understand that other naraes are being added to the list. To John Irwin, George Karhard and William MeCracken, Esq's, Commissioners of Clear Jield CokuIi. Gextlemex: Understanding that you pro pose letting a contract, on January 29th, tor the erection of a new Court House, we res jM CtfulIy, but earnestly, protest against such action. You are aware that two projects are now be fore the people. Firt, the erection of a new rounty out of parts of this and adjoining coun ties, to be called Pine, which, if effected, will cut ofl a large scope of territory and largely decrease our legal business. And Second, the removal of tho seat of Justice from its present site. Large meeting in favor ot re moval have beta held, and petitions circnlat . and numerously signed ; but the friends of which are awaiting legislative action as to Pine county. We, therefore, protest against a letting at this time, fr the following reasons : 1st. If "the erection of Tine county has be come a fixed f ct," as many believe, then the present buildings will be sufficient to accom modate the county with its decreased limits, and there is no necessity for putting the coun ty to the cost of erecting buildings. " 2nd. That if the removal is ofR-ctcd after felting, he county will bo liable for damages o the contractors for breach of contract, 3rd. That the hairiness of the times and Ligh price of provisions at present, must in crease the nmonnt at which the buildings will Ik: let; and the same facts should cause you to pause before adding further burthens upon ns. and rather seek some mode of lessening our rate of taxation, instead of fastening, in great haste, a debt upon us which, with the nccrneing interest, will not be liquidated dur iug the uext 20 years. 4th. Dec23-j3-6t the most effectual alterative that ean be made. It is a concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla. so combined with other substances of still greater al terative power as to anord an effective antidote Tor the diseases araaparilla is repnted to cure. It is believed that such a remedy is wanted by those who suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one wbich will accomplir-n their cure most prove ot immense service to this large class of our afflicted fellow citizen. How completely thiscomponnd will do it has been proTen by experiment on many of the worst eases to be tound ot tne tollowingeomplaints: Scrofula and Scrofulous complaints. Eruptions and Eruptive Diseases, Ulcers, Pimples, Blotches. Tumors, Salt Kbeum, Scald Head, Syphilis and yphilitic affections, Mercurial Disease, Dropsy, Neuralgia or Tic Douloureux, Debility, Dyspepsia and Indigestion. Erysipelas, Rose or St. Antho ny's Fire, and indeed the whole class of com plaints arising from Impurity of the Blood. This compound will be found a great promoter of htallh, when token in tho spring, to expel the foul humors which foster in the blood at that sea son of the year. By the timely expulsion of them many rankling disorders are nipped in ttie bud Multitudes can. bv tho aid of this remedy, spare themselves from the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous sores, through which the system will strive to rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do this through the natural channels of the body bv an altcrativo medicine. Cleanse out the vitia ted blood whenever you find its impurities burst ing through the skin in pimples, eruptions, or sores; cleanse it when you find it is obstructed and slug gish in the veins; cleanse it whenever it is foul, and yonr feelings will tell you when. Even where no particular disorder is felt, people enjoy -better health, and live longer, for cleansing the blood. Keep the body healthy, and all is well; but with this pabulum or Iito disordcrea, mere can ue no lasting health. Sooner or later something must go wrong, and tne great macumcry oi life is disordered or altogether overthrown. Sarsaparilla has. and deserves much, the repu tation, of accomplishing these ends, nut me world has been egrcgiously deceived by prepara tions of it, partly because tho drug alone has not all the virtue that is claimed for it, but more because many preparations, pretending to be conccntrrted extracts of it, contain but littlo of tho virtue of Sarsaparilla, or any thing else. During late years the public have been misled by large bottles, pretending to give a quart of Ex tract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most of these have been frauds upon the sick, for they not only contain little, if any, Sarsaparilla. but often no cu rative properties whatever. Jience, outer and pain ful disappointment has followed the use of the va rious extracts of Sarsaparilla which flood the mar ket, until the name itself is justly despised, and has become synonymous with imposition and cheat. Still we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend to supply such a remedy as shall rescuo the name from the load of obloquy which rests upon it. And we think we have good ground for believing it na virtues wnicn are irresisuioic oy the ordinary run of the diseases, it is intended to cure. In order to secure tneir complete eraaica tion from the system, the remedy should be judi ciously taken according to directions on the oottlc rrcpared by m.j. j. .iyriy t-o., Liowen, jauss Price SI per Bottle; Six Bottles for S5.
