- THE WINDS.
Moaning, moaning through the forest,
' Sighing, sighing o'er the plain,
Making music to ray being ;
Thus the winds bare come again.
Swaying, swaying clover blossoms, .
Trough the meadow green,
Bearing rose-leaves on their bosoms;
In the garden too they've been.
' Shaking, shaking down the dew-drops;
Look ye, winds, see where they've fell ;
Filling up the tiny chalice
Of the purple-tinted bell.
Creeping, creeping through the branches,
Whispering 'mong the maples green,
, On the rocky ledge it glances,
Clothes the birch in silver sheen.
Idling, idling near the fountain,
Tossing up the snowy spray,
Bashing wild'y to the mountain,
Shrieking round the granite gray.
Ling'ring, ling'ring 'long the river,
Dancingneath the elm-shade,
Making all the long reeds quiver,
Waving willows in the glade.
Sweeping, sweeping o'er the smooth lake-;
See the waves begin to swell ;
( Passing on from off its surface,
Bending hazels in the dell.
Away, away upon the shell shoro,
Afar out over the sea,
Sending back a hollow roar ;
Ah ! the winds have gone from me.

REAT DISCOVERY OF TIIE AGE.
IMPORTANT TO TOBACCO CHEWERS.
Dr. Criistar Linnard's Taste Restorative Troches.
the Great Substitute for Tolacco. X. is a well
known and incontrovertible fact that the use of
Tobacco is
the promoting cause of many of the
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL disorders
most severe
to which the race of man is subject, as cureful an
alasisand long and painful experience have clear
ly proven that it containscertain narcotic and poi
sonous properties most dangerous in their effocts,
which by entering into the blood derange the
functions and operations of the Heart, causing ma
ny to suppose that organ to be seriously diseased.
TOBACCO affects also she entire nervous system,
manifesting itself as all who have ever used the
noxious weed will bear testimony in Lassitude,
Nervous Irritability, Water Brash. Dyspepsia, and
many other disorders of a similar character. The
'Taste Restorative Troches" are designed to coun
teract these baneful in9uene.es. and have proved
completely successful in a multitude of cases, and
wherever used. Being harmless in themselves
they exert a beneficial effect upon the entire sys
tem, restoring the Taste which has become vitia
ted or destroyed by great indulgence, complete
ly removing the irritation and accompanying tick
ling sensation of the Throat which are always
consequent upon abstaining from the use of To
bacco, and by giving a healthy tone to the Stom
ach, invigorate the whole system.
Persons who are irretrievably undermining
their constitutions and shortening their lives,
should use these Troches immediately and throw
off the injurious and unpleasant habit of Tobacco
Chewing
These Troches or Lozenges are put up In a con

FIRMARY. M v cennection for the past eight
years with the above Institution, as Chief Physi

to the Cure of Pulmonary Consumption and its
kindred diseases, together with my unrivalled op
portunities and advantage of pathological research
aided not a little by a perfect system of Mrdieal
lnnatattou has enabled me to arrive at a deci

the positive and radical cure of all diseases of the
Tliroat, LttHj?, atul Air-paige. ' By Inhalation,
the vapor and curative properties of medicines are
directly addressed to the diseased organs of the in
tegument. 1 do not advise the use ot -Medical in
halation of any kind, to the exclusion of general
treatment ; and although I eonsider it a useful ad
juvant in the proper management of those fearful
and otten tatal diseas.-s. yet 1 deem it very neces
sary. that each patient should have the benefit of
both general and local treatment. The success of
my treatment in the above diseases, and the high
character of the Institution over which I have so
long had the honor to preside, are too well known
to need any eulogy or comment from me. At the
solicitation of many private and professional
friends, through whose philanthropic aid the above
charity has been long and liberally supported and
after due consideration, 1 have concluded to make
such arrangements as will bring the benefits of my
experience and treatment within the reach of ail,
and not confine myself, as heretofore, to those on
ly who entered the Infirmary, or who were able to
visit me at my office. Hoping therefore that the
arrangement will give cutire satisfaction, both to
my professional brethren and the public I would
respectfully annonnce in conclusion, that 1 ran

used in the Institution, prepared to suit each in

part of the United States or the Canadas. Tkrm's
My terms of treatment by letter are as follows,

Payment as follows: ?( to be paid to Express A

r1IIE GREATEST BIOGRAPHY OF
A TIIE AGE. NOW HEADY: THE
LIFE OF TIIUMAS JEEFEKSUX, by Hen
ry nandall. lu. 1). In. A volumes, octavo.
lb is work contains upwards of 2,000 pages, is prin
ted on fine paper, and handsomely bound in va
rious styles. It is illustrated by several engrav
ings on stcvl. and numerous facsimiles; among
the former are two fine portraits of Jeffcrxoa. The
facsimiles embrace, among others, the original
draft of the Declaration of Independence, in Jef
ferson's own hand-writing.
This is, in every sense, an authorized trori ; it
was undertaken under the approbation of his fam
ily, and with an unreserved access to ail the pri
vate papers of Jefterson in their possession; and
has received the benefit of their recollections and
opinions at every step.
The work contains the expressions of Jefferson
on every great public question wbieh arose, from
his advent to public life to his death a period of
about sixty years, and embracing the whole form
uar period of the Republic It contains Jeffer
son's heretofore unpublished family correspon
dence; selections from his finest published letters,
state papers, etc., etc , etc.
OPIXTOXS OF THE PRESS.
"No other Life of Jefferson ever published

bear any comparison to this in thorougncss, full

This biography ha9 evidently been a labor of Jove,
and the years of patient, assiduous toil it has cost,
have been given with ungrudging, untiring enthu
siasm." Xetn-Yori- Tribune.
"At length the public have a Life of Thomas Jef
ferson that is not only fascinating, and therefore
sure to be popular, bu one that wlil stand the es
sential historic test that of accuracy and truth
fulness. It is seen that the ground-work of the
whole is authentic corcmporary material, and of
the highest order, logathcrit has been the work
of years. We would not compare this volume with
that inimitable and incomparable biography of
lioswcil, and yet so laiiuiul is the portraiture that
Jeflcrson is made to draw of himself, that his na
ture, his very soul, is deliniated with a distinct
ness not unlike that in which Johnson stands out
in the pages of Boswell.' Boston Post.
"Imbued with that enthusiastic admiration of
his subject, without which a biographer is rarely
succcssiui, iir. itanaan nevermeiess aocs not seek
to hide whatever faults he may find, cither from
himself or from the reader. He prints the picture
as Cromwell insisted his should be painted, "warts
and all." The picture gains by this in life-like
coloring, without losing anyof its majestic propor
tions." Albany Evening Journal.
-o one wno run nis eye, nowever casually, o-

world's information about Jefferson, that he has
had access to sources hitherto unexplored, and that
he has done more than was ever done bv anv one
before him to illustrate the personality of that
great statesman. .v. l . i-.rcnimr J'ost.
"We have read with delight Mr. Randall's enp-

which he has seduously eathered. and admirablv
grouped together, from a great variety of authen
tic sources, hitherto unexplored. Out of the tempt
ing richness of his materials, the able and clear
sighted author has constructed a book, at once most
entertaining and instructive one that should be
studied by every patriot of the land." Rich
viond, !'.. Eti'utrer.
There can be only one opinion as to the abili
ty, general impartiality and industry which Mr
Randall has brought into combination in the com
position of this biography. He has
worthily executed a much wanted book." Phil

out of Philadelphia Sevent3--ii ve houses have
been built in 4 months. Practical farmers and bu

a great market. Every article raised on this land
finds an immediate sale. The water is excellent,
and no such thing as fever is known. The soil is
a sandy or clay loam, with a clay bottom Ami re

In settling here the emigrant has many advan

is near his old friends and .associations; he is in a
settled country, wh re every improvement and
comfort of civilization is at hand : he is iu a heal

losing the greater part of bis f.imily and bis own
health by those malignant fevers which make the
graves of so many millions of the young and har

Besides, he has a mild climate and an open winter.
There are three trains daily to Philadelphia,
and to all those who improve the railroad compa

Tho reader will at once be struck with the ad
