Street Preaching. On last Friday, our n
6ii ally quiet town, was thrown iiito a commo
tion, by the sudden appearance of a person
who professes to bo a Seven-day Baptistprea
cher. He commenced a harranguo on a street
corner, without much ceremony, and pitched
Into things in a 'right smart manner' for a

perdition who eat pork. Whether ho is Jew
or Gentile, or whether he is calculated to do
any good, we are not prepared to say, but we
incline to the opinion that he is uon compos
mentis.
Ricn by I'lvnuer. We see that the wife

The Leviathan to be Oitim ss. A bijrgcr
ship than the Leviathan is talked of in Eng
land. It is intended that this new monster
hall carry S'OOO tons more than the Leviath
an is to run faster, and draw less water. An
engineer in Liverpool, named Clare, proposes
to build a ship 1,000 feet in length, 70 feet
Iieam, and only 30 feet from deck to keel, ma
king her perfectly flat bottomed, and her
aides perfectly square. In size she would bo
-20.000 tons.
We will not be surprised to hear, one of
these days, that some engineer proposes to
Imild a bridgo across tho Atlantic, with hotels,
arranged at convenient distances apart, for
the comfort of travellers.
Silver in Nebraska. The Cuming City
Star, of the 27th ult., contains the following :
Our citizens are in a great state of excite
ment about silver mines. It is said that large
pieces have been taken out of the earth adja
cent to our town ; and, strange to say, it is al
no believed that tho mines have been slyly
worked for some time past. We were shown
a specimen which weighed about an ounce,
and which possessed a very bright and silvery
appearance. Full facts are said to be in the
hands of some particular individuals, who are
quietly endeavoring to get charge of a rich
monopoly. This leaked out by one of the
knowing ones, while in a State of semi-inebriation,
asserting that he "could dig up all tho
money he wanted within three miles of town."
The fact had been cautiously noised around
leforo; but this remark led to open investi
gation, and it is now pretty generally believed
that silver exists around Cuming city. We
are just on the cvo of going to press, and onr
latest intelligence is to the effect that many
acres, on the banks of Fish Creek, had been
turned topsy-turvy in seeking the precious
metal. Our readers will have to wait for fur
ther developments until our next."

The delay of Sir H. Rose's force for three

A Band of Fillibcsters is said to bo con

Texas, preparatory to an irruption into Nor
thern Mexico. The commandant atFortMack
intosh (near Laredo), is expected to head tho

court-martial was trumped up chiefly to get
him out of the way, so that fillibusters may
get safely off. A movement of German emi
grants to Chihuahua, is also said to be pro
jected, under the patronage of l'alarios, the
governor of that State.
An address from the Advent Church in New
York and Newark, to the churches scattered
abroad," fixes the year 1858 as the one that is
to witness tho end of all things terrcstial, by
a oyrotechnic exhibition. The result is arrived
at mathematically. The square root of the
cost of Ezekiel's chariot, was 8,503. From
this, extract "prophetic value" of "scarlet
lady of Babylon," 1,282, and we have 7,281.
Take from this the cube ram mentioned by
the Prophet as "pushing westward," 4,757,
and we have for remainder, 2,524. Deduct
from this "the number of tho bea9t," men
tioned in the Apocalypse, 666, and we get the
result, 1858, the year in which the end of tho
world is to take place.
ThoseBomds. The bom lis thrown under tho
carriage of Napoleon in Paris were entered at
the Calais custom-house as a new machine for
the invention of gas, and the inspectors con
sidered them of such little value that they
charged no duty tipon them. Orsini charged
them with fulminating powder that he carried
from London in his satchel, in damp paper.
He dried it in front of a stove, with a watch in
one hand and thermometer in the other, liable
at any moment to be blown into eternity by its
explosion. Five only of the bombs were nsed
of eighteen made, and the anxious inquiry at
Paris is : Where are tho other thirteen S Do
they remain in the hands of other conspirators,
ready to be used at the first favorable moment,
to accomplish what the first failed tothe de
struction of Napoleon, and thus tho loosening
of the key-stone that supports the arch of the
despotic power in Europe J Time will show.
