A FUN.FACT&FANCY. Erbxiy Las heard of Lewis Gay lord Clark's patent "Hen-Persuader" ha Las promised to show us one when we go to Pier- jra&nt bnt everybody doesn't understand Its principles-. It is an artificial nest, into which, when a hen has dropped an egg, the substrat xim gives way with a spring and then closes again, leaving the hen egg-less. Of conrse, the hen at once makes op the deficiency with smother. The Springfield Republican, speak .g of this -Clark-ly" contrivance, whereby gjrs drop throngh a trap-door, tells tlio fol lowing of one Biobbs, who had gone in largely for the invention : "Biobbs met with a loss, however, with one of the pnrsuaders. Biobbs had a lovely young Shanghai pnllet, f boundless ambitiou. Biobbs bought a pursuadur, and his lovely Shanghai used it. She went upon the nest in the morning. Biobbs saw her go, and Lis heart bounded within him! Alas! he never saw her come ofl again. At night, he visited the pursnader. In the upper compartment was a handful of feaHiers, a few toe-nails, and a bill. In the lower compartment were three dozen and eleven eggs ! Biobbs saw it all ! Her del icate constitution had been unequal to the ef fort, and fired by young ambition, she had laid herself all frray !' Doesticks, the uni'iue, amusing, contributor to the Detroit Advertiser, has invented a medi cine. It is called "Doesticks" Patent, Self Acting, Four Ilorse-Power Balsam." He says it is designed to "cure all diseases of the mind, body or estate, to give strength to the weak, money to the poor, boots to the bare footed, decency to blackguards, and common sense to the Loco Focos. It acts physically, morally, mentally, psycologically and geolog ically, and it is intended to make our subluna ry sphere a blissful paradise." Doesticks is a blessing to his kind. Whex Dr. Franklin was in Paris, hisdaugli ter, Jlrs. Bache, wrote to him for a supply of feathers and thread lace. The doctor declined in the following characteristic note : "If you wear your cambric ruffles as I do and take care not to mend t he holes, they will come in time to lace : and feathers, my dear girl, may be had in America from every turkey's tail." Ose of Gov. Slade's shool-ma'ams has got into a place out West where the children nev er heard prayer or preaching. So, one day, w hen aha commenced her school with a prayer, one of the youngsters went home and reported : " You never did sco such a school-marm ! She got down on her knees and swore with all her might!" Since Uncle Sam first turned coiner on his own account, no less than eighteen hundred tons of copper have been converted into cents, making in all about one hundred and fifty millions of peices, bearing upon one side the effigy of Liberty, and upon the reverse, the well-known legend, "One Cent." A 'Western editor once apologized to his readers somewhat after this fashion : "We in tended to have a death and a marriage to pub lish this week, but x violent storm prevented the wedding; and tho doctor being taken sick himself, the patient recovered, and wo are ac cordingly cheated out of both." The following is a genuine Hibernian ad vertisement: "Missing from Killarney, Jane O'Fogerty ; she had in her arms two babies and a Guernsey cow, all black, with red lv.iir, and tortoise-shell combs behind her cars, and large black spots all clown her back, which squints awfully." Two country attorneys overtaking a wagon er and thinking to crack a joke on him, asked him why his fore horse was so fat anil the rest so lean. The wagoner knowing them to be "limbs of tho law," said : "That the fore horse was a l.iwy-r and the rest were his clients." The question has been asked, why it is con sidered impolito for gentlemen to go into the presence of ladies in their shirt-sleeves, while it is considered in every way correct for the ladies themselves to appear before gentlemen without any sleeves at all. An Irish gentleman having purchased ana larm clock, an acquaintance asked Lira what he intended to do with it. "Oh," sail he, "it's the most convenient thing in the world ; for I have nothing to do but to pull the siting, and wake myself." A Lafayette, Indiana, paper says that two diamonds of the first water, one of the size of a small pea and the other that of a grain of wheat, was recently taken from an artesian v wll in that vicinity. A Pennsylvania court has decided that a man who subscribed for a work to be publish ed in three volumes is not bound to pay for a fourth and fifth volume, to which the work ex tends. As inscription upon one of the buildings in Cincinnati on the occasion of the great rail road celebration was: -A locomotive is the only good motive for riding a man on a rail." The woman who undertook to scour the woods, has abandoned the job, owing to the high price of soap suds. The last that was heard of her she was skimmibg the seas. A young man stepped into a bookseller's shop and asked for a Young Man's Companion. 'Well, sir," said the bookseller, "there is ray daughter." "r. U , If you'll get my pants done by Saturday, I shall be forever indebted to you." "If that's your game they'll not be done, sure," said the tailor.
