,T . HUMOROUS.
TBS TXAQEDY Or -OTHEIXO," IS LITTLE.
Wo do not aee now the story of "The Moor
of Venice" eonld be told in fewer or more
aoggertire words than ft Is here, by an Irish
acquaintance of our. Exchange.
. Othello was a captain bould,
Though black as coal by nature,
To Desdemona he was bound,
A beautiful yonng craythnre.
-"With her he ld a happy life
For she was no virago "
':. Until one day he chanc'd to meet
. A villain, named lago. .
- Says he, your wife's a perjured jade,
She is a faifhless lassie, oh !
Sbo doesn't care a straw for you ;
She'd give your eyes for Casaio. .
With him she gallivants about,
- In all her hours of laysurc ;
- She stole your pocket handkerchief
; For him to wipe his r.izior.
3jr handkerchief ! my handkerchief 1
' - Othello then did stammer ;
My cotton pocket handkerchief !
"Oh, d- her, lewd minx, d- her !"f
Neither with dagger, nor with dirk
For that would make a foul stir
But first I'll put the candle ont,
And shlay her with the boulster !
fO-hello, Act III, Scene 3.
All a man has to do in these days to pass
for a genius, is to button his coat behind, and
wear his hat wrong side out. If he can con
trive to stumble over on apple stand two or
three times, it will help thnatter vastly.
An enterprising but ignorant South Ameri
can has sent to an Albany locomotive shop, for
one hundred "cow catchers." He expects to
nse them in taking wild cattle on the plains of
the Paragua; , in place of the l.isso.
At a late fireman' supper at Turlington,
Edward Bradley gave the following toast :
"Ladies of '56, like the fireman's bucket, well
hooped and, like firemen, delighting in the
exhibition of their hose."
A widely known gent, having been arrested
for stealing a gold watch, gave as an excuse
that he was unwell ; that the doctor told him
,fce had: better "take something," and he had
"taken" a watch.
Snow flakes, it is said, fall so large in Ore
gon that the ladies put handles to them and
use them for parasols.
