E TEACHERS.
MY
THERESA, Or OAKLAND.
To xt Tbacheb, T. R
, on taught me in my childhood r
A teacher good wert thou,
"With kindness erer in your face
And goodneM on your brow.
O. how my child-heart loved youthen,
For teachings cir'ji to me ;.
It erer beaU with gratitude
When thought tarn back to thee.
Dim recollections come again.
Of days now long gone by ;
Bri ?ht days of joyous mirthfalneu,
'"cath childhood's sanny sky.
Oh, that these days might come again.
Though few and short they be.
The happiest days that ever came.
In childhood came to me.
. To m Teacher, D. M.
Ton taught me in my childhood ;
A teacher good wert thou ;
With kindne.s ever in your face.
And on your noble brow.
Eo good, so gentle, and so kind.
Our pica you always heard,
And chid us all so tenderly
Whenever we had err'd.
Ah me ! I fancy I see yet
Those inild blue eyes er love.
And dark hair lying back in folds,
That lofty brow above.
O Death !"why aim thy ruthless shaft
At one so young as he ;
So noble, too. so much beloved
As he e'er seemed to be.
To xt Teacher, S. F.
Ton taught me in my girlhood ;
A teacher good wert thou;
With kindness ever in your face.
And on your high white brow ;
A teacher good as ever was
For this was said to me -Oft
times. .-He who instructs you,
Labors most faithfully."
Even, as yesterday, I see
Those largo and smiling eyes,
In which is ever playfulness
Mirthiulness that ne'er dies.
If on these lines those eyes raayfall.
Perchance, in future years ;
Pray iop and cast a thought on her
Whose band haj traced them here.

IMPORTANT TO HOUSEKEEPERS Axn
FRUIT CROVERS.--ARTHUIi,S PAT
eit Air-Tight S:lf-Sealinj Cans and Jars, for
Freserviu" Fr;sh Frai:, &3. This invention fur
which a patent has been obtained, commends it
self to the attention of Housekeepers and others,
on account of it great simplicity, and the effectu
al manner in which it accomplished a very desi
rable and useful object
The cans and jars are constructed with a chan
nel around the moulh. near the top, into which
the cover fits loosely. This channel is filled with
a very adhesive couient, prepared for the purpose
and allowed to harden. In order to seal the ves
sel hermetically, it i only nr.ctxary to heat the
cocer slightly, and frei it into plasr. It may be
opened with as much ease as it is closed, by slight
ly warming the top. The ordinary tin cans, used
for the same purpose fir which this is intended,
cannot be closed, iisis well known without the aid
of a tinner; are diSicult to open, and are generally
so much injured iu opening as to be useless for
future service.
By this simple contrivance, the process of her
metical scaling is placed. conveniently within the
reach of every individual; and fruit, vegetables
and butter (if properly prepared) may be kept,
with their natural flavor unimpaired, lor an in
definite length of time. For sale bv
