' T RBQCEST.
" : "THE LAST FAREWELL. "
Lie op nearer, brother, nearer, "
For my limbs are growing cold,
And thy presence scemeth dearer
When thy arms around me fold.
I am dying, brother, dying; '
. 6oon you'll miss loe in your berth,
For my frame will soon be lyi Dg ,
- 'Neath the ocean's briney earf.
Hearken, brother, to me hearken,
I have something I would say,
Ere the Tale my vision darken.
And I go from hence away.
I am going, surely going,
Cut my hope in 3od is strong ;
I am willing, brother, willing,
For ho doeth nothing wrong.
Tell my father when you greet him,
That in death I prayed for him
Trayed that I one day might meet him,
In a world that's tree from sin.
Tell my mother God assist her,
Kow that she is growing old
Tell, her child would glad hare kissed her,
When his lips grew pale and cold.
Listen, brother! catch each whisper;
"lis my wife I speak of now ;
Tell her, oh ! tell her, how I missed her,
When the fever burnt my brow !
Tell her, brother closely listen,
Don't forget a single word
That in death my eyes did glisten
With the tears her memory stirred.
Tell her she must kiss my children,
Like the kiss I last impressed ;
Jlold them as when I last held them
Folded closely to my breast ;
Give them early to their Maker,
Putting all her trust in God,
And lie never will foraike her,
For he has said so in his word.
0, my children ! Heaven bless them
They wtre all my life to me;
Would I could ouce more carets them,
Ere I sink beneath tho sea ;
'Twas for them I crossed the ocean,
What my hopes were I'll not tell ;
But they've gained the orphan's portion ;
Yet lie doeth all things well.
Tell my sisters, I remember
Every kindly parting woid,
And my heart has been kept tender,
As these thoughts thro' memory stirr'd.
Tell them I never reached the haven
Where I sought the precious dust,
But I've gained the port of Heaven,
Where the gold will never rust.
Urge them to secure an entrance,
For they'll find their brother there ;
Faith in Jesus, and repentance,
Will secure for each a share.
Hark ! I hear my Savior speaking ;
'TU his voice. I know it well ;
When I'm gone, O don't be weeping ;
Brother, hear my last farewell !

PreservisgFrtsh Fraits, 4c. This invention for
which a patent has been obtained, commends it
self to the attention of Houckecpers and others,
on account of its great simplicity, and the effectu
al manner in which it accomplished a very desi
rable and useful object
The cans and jars arc constructed with a chan
nel around the mouth, near the top, into which
the cover fits loosely. This channel is filled with
a very adhesive cement, prepared for the purpose
and allowed to harden. In order to seal the ves
sel hermetically, it is only necessary to heat the
cover starhtly, and press it into ptnee. It may be
opened with as much eas,a? it isclosed, by slight
ly warming the top. The ordinary tin cans, used
for the same purpose fur which this is intended,
cannot be closed. sis well known without the aid
of a tinner; are difficult to open, and are generally
so much injured iu opening-as to be useless for
future service.
By thij.siiur.le contrivance, the process of hcr
metical sealing is placed conveniently within the
reach of every individual; and fruit, vegetables
and butter (if properly prepared) maybe kept,
with their natural flavor unimpaired, tor an in
definite length of time. For sale by - -
