THE BACIIEI.OR'S DKEAM.
BY THOMAS BOOD.
My pipe la lit, mj glass ii mixed.
My curtains drawn, and all is snog ;
' Old Pas ii in her elbow chair,
And Tray i eittias on the rug.
Last night I had a curious dream.
Mia Susan Bates wu Mistress Mogjp
TThat d'ye think of that, my eat?
What d'ye think of that, my dog ?
Ehe looked ao fair, she sang so well,
I could but woo, and she was won ;
Myself in blue, the bride in white.
The ring was placed, the deed was done !
Away we went in chSise-and-four,
As fast aa grinning boys could flog
What d'ye think of that, my cat ?
?hat d'ye think of that, my doj?
What loving tole-a-tetcs to come !
What tete-a-tetes must still defer !
When Susan came to live with me.
Her mother came to live with her ?
With sistor Belle ehe couldn't part.
But all toy ties had leave to jog
What d'ye think of that, my cat ?
What d'ye think of that, my dog
The monkey bit, the parrot screamed.
All day the sister strummed and sung :
The petted maid was such a scold !
My Susan learned to use her tongue ;
Ilcr Mother had such wretched health,
ghe sat and crooked like any frog
What d'ye think cf that, my cat ?
What d ye think of that, my dog?
2?o longer Deary, Duck, and Love,
I soon came down to simple "Ml"
The very servant crossed my wish, .
My Susan let me down to them.
The poker hardly seomed my own,
I might as well have been a log
What d'ye think of that, my cat?
What d'ye think of that, my dog ?
My clothes they were the queerest shape !
Such coats and hats she never met '.
' My ways they were the oddest wars !
My friends wero such a vulgar set !
Poor Tompkins was snubbed and huffed,
She could not bear that Mister Blogg
What d ye think of thct. my cat?
Vfhetd'ye think of that, my dog ?
At times we had a spar and then
Mamma must not mingle in the song
The sister tooi a sister's p art
The maid declared her master wrong
The parrot learned to call me "Fool '."
My life was like a London fag
What d'ye thiuk of that, my cat?
What d'ye think of that, my dog?
My Susana's taste was superfine,
As proved my bills that had no end ;
I never had a decent coat
I never had a coia to spend !
She forced ma to resign my club,
Lay down my pipe, retrench my grog
What d'ye think of that, my cat ?
What d ye thiuk of that, my dog ?
Each Sunday eight we gave a rout.
To fops and flirts, a pretty list ;
And when I tried to steal away,
I found my study full of whist.
Then first to coino, and last to go.
There always was a Captain Hogg
What d'ye think of that, my cat?
What d'yo think of that, my dog ?
Now was not that an awful dream
For one who single is and snug
With Pussy in the elbow chair,
And Tray reposing 011 the rng ?
If I must totter down the hill,
"Til safest done without a clog
What d'ye think of that, my cat ?
What d'ye think of that, my dog?

IMPORTANT TO HOUSEKEEPERS and
JFK I IT UKOWEKS. ARTHUR'S PAT
eit Air-Tijht S:lf-Scalin!j Cans and Jan, for
Preervi!igwrr:ah Fruits, &s. This invention for
which a patent has been obtained, commends it
self to the r-ttcntion of Housekeepers and others,
on account of its prc.it simplicity, and the effectu
al manner in which it accomplished a very desi
rable and useful object
The cans and jars are constructed with a chan
nel around the mouth, near the t"p. into which
the cover fits loojely. This channel is filled with
a Very adhesive cement, prepared for the purpose
and allowed to harden. In order to seal the ves
sel hermetically, .it is only nerrssary to ft rut the
eorer slightly, and press it into y'are. Ituiny bo
opened with as much ease as it iscloscd. by slight
ly warming the top. The ordinary tin cans, used
for the same purpose for which this is intended,
cannot be closed, as is well known without the aid
of a tinner; are diCicult to open, aud are generally
so much injured iu opening ns to bo useless for
future service.
By this simple contrivance, the process of her
raetical sealing is placed conveniently within the
reach of every individual; and fruit, vegetables
and butter (if prooerly prepared) maybe kept,
with their natural flavor unimpaired, lor au in
definite length of time. For s:ilo by
