IMPORTANT TO HOUSEKEEPERS and
FRUIT UROWERS.ABTHUR'S PAT
ent Air-Tifht Self-Sealin? Cans and Jars, for
Preserving Fr.sh Fruits, &c This invention for
which a patent has been obtained, commends it
self to tho attention of Housekeepers and others,
on account of its great simplicity, and the effectu
al manner in which it accomplished a very desi
rable and useful object
The cans and jars are constructed with a chan
nel around the mouth, near tho top, into which
the cover fits loosely. This channel is filled with
a very adhesive cement, prepared for the purpose
and allowed to harden. In order to seal the ves
sel hermetically, it is only necessary to heat the
cover slightly, ami press it into place. It may be
opened with as much ease as it is closed, bv slight
ly warming the top. The ordinary tin cans, used
for the same purpose for which this is intended,
cannot be closed, as is well known without the aid
of a tinner; are difficult to open, and aro generally
so much injured iu opening as to be ua. !.. r..r
future service.
ISy this simple contrivance, the process of her-
metieal sealing is placed conveniently within the
roach of every individual; and fruit, vegetables
and butter (if properly prepared) may be kept,
with their natural tiavor unimpaired, lor an in
definite length of time. For sale by
